Box Score WALTHAM, Mass. – Jen Gemma led four Bentley University players in double figures with 24 points as the Falcons downed Southern New Hampshire University 75-62 in Northeast-10 women's basketball Wednesday night at the Dana Center. Bentley upped its record to 11-14 and 6-13 in the NE-10, while the Penmen are now 11-15 and 5-14 in the league.
Gemma finished 9-12 from the floor. Kelsey Mattice finished with 15 points and seven rebounds, going 3-4 behind the arc, while Carlene Kluge and Lauren Green notched 14 points apiece.
Victoria Wiseman (Montreal, Quebec) led Southern New Hampshire with 16 points on the evening. She also grabbed eight rebounds. Brooke Springfield (Jaffrey, N.H.) totaled 14 points, while Sara Ryan (Quincy, Mass.) added 11.
Southern New Hampshire jumped out to a 9-0 lead three minutes into the game following a Wiseman basket, but Bentley countered with a 12-2 run capped by a Kristin Brown basket to take a 12-11 lead at the 13:53 mark. The two teams traded the lead five times before a 7-0 Penmen spurt capped by a Wiseman layup gave the guests a 22-18 lead with 4:27 to go before intermission. The Falcons scored the final 12 points of the first half and took a 35-26 lead into the locker room.
Back-to-back Wiseman layups to open the second half cut the Bentley lead to five, 35-30, before six straight Falcon points gave the hosts a 41-30 lead with just under 17 minutes to go. A 10-2 Penmen spurt capped by a pair of Catherine Stinson (Lynn, Mass.) free throws made it 43-40 with 13:27 left.
SNHU trailed 47-44 with just under 11 minutes left when Bentley took control, putting together a 19-5 spurt to take a 66-49 lead with 6:57 left on a Mattice three. The Falcons maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
Bentley shot 63% for the contest, including a 7-12 effort behind the arc, while also going 10-11 at the free throw line. Southern New Hampshire, which held a 28-26 rebound advantage, shot 45%, but was just 2-14 from long range and 6-12 at the charity stripe.
The Penmen return home on Saturday, February 21, when SNHU welcomes Saint Michael's College for a 1:30 game that can be seen live on NESN National and NESNplus. Prior to the game, five seniors will be honored prior to their final regular season collegiate home game. The Senior Day ceremony kicks off at 1:15 pm.
