Box Score ALBANY – Junior Cameron Joyce (Braintree, Mass.) scored a pair of goals and assisted on two others, but the College of Saint Rose scored four unanswered goals during the second and third quarter to secure a 12-8 victory over Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 men's lacrosse action at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex on Saturday. The Penmen move to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in league play, while the Golden Knights improve to 2-3 and 1-1 in the NE-10.
Seniors Jeremy Buckley (Norwell, Mass.) and Cory Allen (Suffield, Conn.) also scored twice for Southern New Hampshire, and junior Eric Johnson (West Suffield, Conn.) added a goal and two assists.
Joyce put the Penmen ahead early with his fourth goal of the year just over three minutes into the contest. Buckley doubled the lead with 8:51 to go in the first quarter when he fired home his 10th of the season. Matt Graham cut the SNHU lead in half with 7:56 to play, and he evened the score less than a minute later to make it 2-2 at the end of one.
Buckley put the Penmen back in front by a goal just 10 seconds into the second quarter when he collected a feed from sophomore Patrick Goff (Nashua, N.H.) and rifled home his second of the afternoon. After a pair of Saint Rose goals made it a 4-3 game in favor of the hosts, Joyce took a pass from Johnson and brought Southern New Hampshire even with 7:03 to go before halftime.
The Golden Knights closed out the first half with two scores to take a 6-4 lead before adding two more goals midway through the third quarter to extend their advantage to 8-4 with 5:59 left.
The Penmen responded with three consecutive goals to trim the deficit to 8-7. Allen buried his eighth of the year with 5:08 to go in the third before Joyce fed sophomore Keifer Heckman (Peabody, Mass.) to make it 8-6. Johnson closed out the three-goal run with 2:54 remaining in the quarter when he found the back of the net for the first time this season on a setup from Joyce to bring Southern New Hampshire back within one. Saint Rose added two more goals in the last minute of the third quarter, and carried a 10-7 lead into the fourth.
Allen netted his second of the game 1:08 into the fourth quarter on an assist from Johnson to make it 10-8, but it would be as close as the Penmen would get.
Goff finished 11-for-18 at the face-off X, and raked in six groundballs in the setback. Senior Crosby Nicholson (Andover, Mass.) stopped 13 shots and scooped up four groundballs in the Southern New Hampshire cage.
Kevin Fleming (3G, 2A) and Kris Miller (2G, 3A) led the Golden Knight attack with five points. Graham and Evan Helming each scored three times in front of Nick Luongo, who stopped eight shots in the victory.
The Penmen return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Mercy College for a 3 p.m. faceoff with the Mavericks. Saint Rose continues Northeast-10 play on Saturday when it travels to Bentley University for a 1 p.m. contest with the Falcons.
