Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. – Sophomore Keifer Heckman (Peabody, Mass.) scored three goals, but Southern New Hampshire University suffered a 10-5 setback against Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference men's lacrosse action at Larkin Field on Tuesday. The Penmen shift to 1-6 with a 1-3 mark in the Northeast-10, while the Greyhounds improve to 3-5 and 1-3 in the league.
Assumption jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Heckman put Southern New Hampshire on the board with his first of the evening. Just 3:06 after his first goal, Heckman netted his second of the night off a dish from freshman freshman Dan Malave (Wading River, N.Y.), trimming the Greyhound lead to just one heading into the half.
Conor Darby ran off four straight goals during the second half to push the Assumption the lead to 9-3. Junior Cameron Joyce (Braintree, Mass.) and Heckman found the back of the net to bring the Penmen to within four, but it would be as close as they would come.
Heckman led the way offensively for Southern New Hampshire with three goals, and Joyce added a goal and an assist. Malave, sophomore Eric Johnson (West Suffield, Conn.), and freshman Chris West (Albany, N.Y.) recorded a point apiece on Tuesday, and senior Crosby Nicholson (Andover, Mass.) stopped five shots against the Greyhounds.
Darby buoyed the Assumption offense with four goals, while Ty Martina added a hat trick and Garrett Smith scored twice.
The Penmen close out a three-game homestand on Saturday when they host Saint Michael's College at Larkin Field for a 1 p.m. tilt.
