The Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team opened play at the ITA East Regional hosted by University of the Sciences on Saturday.
In the A singles draw, Xavier Aubron (Herouville, France), Tiago Fernandes (Porto, Portugal) and Sebastian Ramirez (Merida, Venezuela) each advanced to the second round. Aubron downed Aaron Stahl of St. Thomas Aquinas College in three sets, dropping the first set in an 8-6 tiebreaker before taking the next two sets 6-4, 10-6. He will face Lucas Martinez of Queens (N.Y.) College in the second round. Fernandes was a 6-0, 6-4 winner against Luis Molina of Philadelphia University and faces Tomas Lieb of NYIT in the second round. Ramirez downed a player from Queens before succumbing in the second round to Ofir Ginat of Concordia (N.Y.) College.
Aubron and Fernandes earned a first round bye in the A doubles draw, but fell in the second round to Jake Sosonkin and Nathan Nguyen of the host Devils 8-3.
In B singles, Max Georgeff (Toronto, Ontario) and Jeremy Reichentahl (Cheshire, Conn.) each won their first round matches. Georgeff was an 8-3 winner over John Lemar of Daemen College, while Reichentahl downed Jacobo Atri of Philadelphia 8-5. Adam Frey (Danville, N.H.) won a play-in round match 8-4 over Duncan Henderson of USciences and will face Jonathan Young of Post University Sunday.
