Freshman Kylie Lorenzen (Holliston, Mass.) netted 19 points, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's basketball team fell late to the University of New Haven, 79-69, Saturday afternoon at the SNHU Fieldhouse.

Lorenzen was an efficient 7 of 10 from the floor and hit 5 of 8 at the line, while collecting seven rebounds. Junior Sara Ryan (Quincy, Mass.) put together her highest scoring game since Nov. 24 as she registered 14 points (6-11 FG, 2-4 3-FG) and two assists. Senior Erin Doherty (Marshfield, Mass.) narrowly missed a double-double with 10 points (3-5 FG, 4-6 FT), nine rebounds and four assists.

Lauren Hebert led all scorers with 24 points, including 21 in the second half, for New Haven. Briana Bradford added 23 points for the Chargers, while Alexandria Kerr posted a double-double of 16 points and 11 boards.

Trailing by three early on, New Haven crafted a 10-1 surge – with five points each from Bradford and Kerr – to grab an 11-5 lead three minutes into the contest. A little over three minutes later, a 5-0 spurt – capped by a Ryan trey – knotted the game at 16-all with 2:07 on the clock. The Chargers would respond with a 6-1 run to cap the quarter and New Haven led, 22-17, at the end of one.

An India Dotson layup 15 seconds into the second stanza ran the lead to a half-high seven points before an 11-0 flourish – with the middle seven points coming from Ryan – put Southern New Hampshire on top, 28-24, midway through the period. New Haven again answered, however, ripping off a 10-1 run that featured four points from Bradford and sent the Chargers into the break with a 34-29 advantage.

A 3-pointer from freshman Brianna Camara (Fall River, Mass.) just under a minute-and-a-half into the third quarter trimmed the Penmen deficit to 36-34, but a 5-0 spurt that included four points from Hebert stretched the New Haven advantage to 45-38 with 5:55 to play in the third. SNHU used a 10-0 rush later in the quarter to grab a 50-47 lead with 2:08 left. The Penmen would close the quarter with a 53-51 edge.

New Haven opened the final frame with an 8-3 run the put it back in the lead at 59-56 over three minutes in. A 7-2 spurt just over a minute later expanded the advantage to 66-60 before Camara buried a 3-pointer to slice the lead in half with 4:18 remaining.

With the deficit at three more than two minutes later, a 9-0 New Haven run – with six points from Bradford – sealed the win and opened a game-high 11-point lead at 79-68 with less than 30 seconds to go.

Freshman Aaliyah Paxton (Hainesport, N.J.) posted eight points (4-8 FG) and five rebounds, while Camara finished with six points (2-6 FG, 2-5 3-FG), four assists and three rebounds in her first career start. Sophomore Catherine Stinson (Lynn, Mass.) chipped in six points (3-12 FG).

-New Haven won both the glass (36-35) and the paint (44-20), while featuring a better assist-to-turnover ratio (11/11-12/18) that led to a 21-10 margin in points off turnovers.
