Sophomore Gavin Dugas (Pittsfield, Maine) fired a 4-under 68 in the final round Monday as the Southern New Hampshire University men's golf team totaled a single-round, program-record 282 to capture the Le Moyne Fall Invitational at the Lakeshore Yacht & Country Club.
After sitting seven strokes back of day one leader, Saint Thomas Aquinas College, the Penmen shot 6-under as a team to grab first by five strokes.
Dugas finished in a second-place tie, overall, with a 1-under 143.
Freshman Drew Kane (Scarborough, Maine) also tied for second with a 1-under 143 after shooting a 1-under 71 in Monday's final round. Senior John Clancy (Sandwich, Mass.) bounced back with a 1-under 71, as well, and tied for 22nd with a 150.
Junior Joshua LaCasse (Bow, N.H.) bettered his opening-round score by one stroke as he shot an even-par 72 to tie for eighth with a 1-over 145.
Sophomore Etienne Bourgoin (Abington, Mass.) tied for 29th with a 152 as he penciled in a 76 that did not factor in the team score.
Notes:
-The 282 for the Penmen breaks the previous school record of 285 from the second round of the NCAA Atlantic/East Regional on May 3 of last season.
-Southern New Hampshire finished second at its first four events of the year before earning their first win since capturing the Barton Intercollegiate on March 15 of last season.
-Rollins College's Collin Engelhardt earned individual medalist honors with a 3-under 141.
-Rollins, which finished third, was ranked 15th in the latest Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Division II Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll.
-The Le Moyne Fall Invitational was comprised of 17 institutions and 94 student-athletes.
