NORTHEAST-10 RELEASE
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Junior Ricardo Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal) and freshman Bas Van Biezen (Sassenheim, Netherlands) of the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team were tabbed as the Northeast-10 Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for the period ending Oct. 16, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Marreiros went 4-0 during a 2-0 week for the Penmen. Marreiros easily took care of Saint Anselm College's Eric Howes at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1, on Wednesday and outlasted Post University's Ivan Rajevac, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5, on Sunday. In No. 1 doubles play, Marreiros and classmate Miguel Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal) pulled out an 8-6 victory against Saint Anselm's Howes and Kyle Harris and recorded an 8-5 win against Post's Ivan Rajevac and Nikola Crvelin.
Van Biezen was also a perfect 4-0 during the week. Van Biezen earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles against Saint Anselm's Harris and then doubled up Post's Samuel Urban, 8-4, at No. 5. In doubles action, Van Biezen and junior Xavier Aubron (Herouville, France) captured a pair of 8-4 No. 2 doubles wins against Saint Anselm's Adam Weinstein and Daniel Kmetz and Post's Urban and Ludvig Henrikson.
Marreiros, Van Biezen and the Penmen are finished for the fall and return to action Tuesday, March 21 (3 p.m.) when they play host to Bentley University at the SNHU Tennis Courts.
