INDIANAPOLIS – The Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer team extended the longest current streak in Division II with its ninth straight NCAA Tournament selection, as announced by the selection committee Monday evening on the NCAA Tournament Selection Show on NCAA.com.
The Penmen (11-4-2), who are in the tournament for the 22nd time, overall, earned the East Region's No. 6 seed and will take on third-seeded Le Moyne College (14-4-2) in the NCAA First Round on Thursday, Nov. 10 (4 p.m.) at Adelphi University's Motamed Field.
In the only meeting this season between Southern New Hampshire and Le Moyne, the Dolphins – who lost to Adelphi in the Northeast-10 title match – pulled out a 1-0 victory at home Oct. 1 with a goal in the 51st minute. The two teams have met just once previously in the NCAA Tournament, officially playing to a 1-1 draw before Le Moyne advanced, 3-2, on penalty kicks in the 2009 East Regional final.
The winner of the SNHU/Le Moyne match will take on second-seeded Adelphi on Saturday, Nov. 12 (4 p.m.). The victor from that match will head to the highest remaining seed from the East Region to battle either top-seeded Long Island University-LIU Post, fourth-seeded Franklin Pierce University or the No. 5 seed, Merrimack College, which all duke it out at LIU Post's Pioneer Soccer Park for the right to play in the third round of the NCAA Tournament on Nov. 17/18.
The quarterfinal round will take place at the same sites as the third round Nov. 19/20, while the semifinals and final will be played Dec. 1 and 3 at Children's Mercy Victory Field at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Mo., hosted by Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association and Kansas City Sports Commission.
