The 26th-ranked Rollins College Tars posted a 9-0 victory against the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team on Wednesday at the Tiedtke Tennis Complex.
Sophomore Miguel Marreiros (Portugal) and graduate student Tiago Fernandes (Porto, Portugal) each took six games during singles play, with Marreiros hanging tough at No. 2 singles against Patrick Sell – the 44th-ranked player in the country – before falling, 6-3, 6-3, and Fernandes dropping a 6-2, 6-4 decision at No. 4 singles to Casey Austgen.
Sophomore Ricardo Marreiros (Portugal) captured three games against the fourth-ranked player in the nation – Anton Bettink – but lost, 6-1, 6-2.
Miguel Marreiros and Fernandes gave Bettink and Adrian Di Felice a scare at No. 1 singles, but were edged, 8-6.
Notes:
-In addition to its national rank, Rollins is also seventh in the South Region.
