DIVISION II SCHOLARS OF DISTINCTION | DIVISION II NATIONAL ACADEMIC SQUAD
CHANDLER, Ariz. – Graduate student Alanna Lovejoy (Derry, N.H.) of the Southern New Hampshire University field hockey team was named a 2015 ZAG/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II Scholar of Distinction to headline a list of 14 Penmen named to the ZAG/NFCHA Division II National Academic Squad. As a team, SNHU was one of 22 Division II field hockey programs to compile a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Lovejoy, a Hospitality Business major, was named a Division II Scholar of Distinction for the first time in her career. In order to be named a Division II Scholar of Distinction, a student-athlete must obtain a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher through the first semester of the 2015-16 academic year. Lovejoy appeared in 12 games for Southern New Hampshire during the 2015 campaign and tallied a goal and an assist for three points.
Lovejoy also earned a nod to the Division II National Academic Squad, and was joined by 13 of her teammates. Along with Lovejoy, senior Melissa Chisholm (Norwood, Mass.), freshman Jackie Curtin (Londonderry, N.H.), senior Melanie Epstein (Bayport, N.Y.), sophomore Mikaela Gauvain (Salem, N.H.), senior Sarah Gluck (East Bridgewater, Mass.), freshman Maddie Holt (Seabrook, N.H.), freshman Cassidy Huckins (Boscawen, N.H.), senior Cassandra Nickerson (Newton, N.H.), freshman Lindsey Poirier (South Berwick, Maine), freshman Alyssa Scott (Bedford, N.H.), sophomore Alexis Soucy (Windsor, Maine), sophomore Amaris Taylor (Tulsa, Okla.) and senior Austen Theroux (Goffstown, N.H.) earned spots on the National Academic Squad. To garner ZAG/NFHCA Division II National Academic Squad laurels, a student-athlete must achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2015-16 academic year.
In its second year at the varsity level, Southern New Hampshire finished the 2015 season 2-16 overall.
