Junior Daniel Trainor (Billerica, Mass.) registered a career-high five points, but a seven-goal first quarter powered No. 13 Molloy College to a 15-8 victory over Southern New Hampshire University in non-conference lacrosse action at John A. Darcy Field on Wednesday evening.
Trainor led the Penmen with four goals and assist, while senior Cameron Joyce (Braintree, Mass.), juniors Patrick Goff (Nashua, N.H.) and Keifer Heckman (Peabody, Mass.), and sophomore Dan Malave (Wading River, N.Y.) each scored once.
The Golden Lions built a five-goal advantage in the game's first 9:21 before Southern New Hampshire was able to respond. Trainor put the visitors on the board with 3:06 remaining in the opening quarter when he converted a feed from senior Eric Johnson (Suffield, Conn.) for his third of the season. Molloy answered just 36 seconds later to regain a five score cushion, and made it 6-1 with 10 ticks remaining in the first.
After Kevin Teresky tallied his fourth marker of the evening just over a minute into the second stanza, SNHU potted a pair of goals in a 21-second span to trim its deficit back to five. Trainor setup Joyce for his fifth of the year at 7:23 before Goff netted his first of the season at 7:44. Molloy used a man-up strike with 6:33 left in the half to up its lead to 9-3, but a man-down goal from Heckman followed by Trainor's second of the night closed the gap to four with 3:40 to go before intermission. Casey Kelly found the back of the net at 13:39 to stake the Golden Lions' to a 10-5 edge at the half.
Molloy put the game out of reach in the third, as it outscored the Penmen by a 3-1 margin. Trainor delivered the lone Southern New Hampshire goal of the frame just over three minutes in, before he and Malave each scored in a fourth quarter that featured a pair of tallies from each side.
Junior Tyler Walsh (Northampton, Mass.) stopped seven shots over the final three quarters of relief in the Penmen cage. His counterpart, Ryan Toomey, improved to 5-0 with 11 saves for the Golden Lions.
Notes:
- Molloy maintained a 44-26 advantage in shots and a 22-19 edge in shots on goal.
- Goff was 9-for-18 at the faceoff X on Saturday, but the Golden Lions took 16-of-25 draws over the duration of the contest.
- Joyce saw his multipoint streak halted at six games, but extended his personal point streak to 20 consecutive outings.

Southern New Hampshire looks to pickup its first victory of the season when it visits Georgian Court University (0-5) for its second consecutive non-conference road contest on Saturday (March 12) at noon.
