BOX SCORE

When and Where: April 16, 2016 – Rindge, N.H. (Sodexo Field)
Score: Southern New Hampshire University 14, Franklin Pierce University 13
Records: SNHU 7-4 (6-3 Northeast-10 Conference), FPU 4-7 (3-6 Northeast-10 Conference)

Senior Cameron Joyce (Braintree, Mass.) registered a game-high eight points and Southern New Hampshire University withstood a late six-goal barrage by Franklin Pierce University to earn a 14-13 victory in Northeast-10 Conference men's lacrosse action at Sodexo Field on Saturday.

Joyce led the Penmen offense with three goals and five assists, while junior Keifer Heckman (Peabody, Mass.) scored twice and handed out a pair of helpers. Sophomore Dan Malave (Wading River, N.Y.) had a three-point afternoon on two goals and an assist, and juniors Scott Lavey (Wading River, N.Y.) and Cameron McGuire (Melrose, Mass.) added two goals apiece.

The Ravens jumped on the board first with the game's first goal midway through the opening quarter before back-to-back strikes by Joyce and McGuire put SNHU ahead, 2-1 at 10:03. After Franklin Pierce evened things up less than a minute and a half later, the Penmen put together a four-goal run over the final 3:16 of the first to take a lead they would never relinquish. Lavey found the back of the net at 11:44 before Joyce tallied his second of the contest with 2:23 to play. After sophomore Chris West (Albany, N.Y.) potted his third of the season with 36 seconds remaining, sophomore Corey Cairo (Wading River, N.Y.) deposited his fifth just 13 seconds later to make it 6-2 through 15 minutes of action.

After Sean Delea brought the hosts back within three at 6:09 of the second, McGuire and sophomore Devin Calkins (Bow, N.H.) answered with a marker apiece to increase Southern New Hampshire's edge to five. Delea recorded his second of stanza with just under a minute to go before intermission before Lavey reestablished the five-goal cushion at 14:31. The Ravens scored just nine seconds later, and the Penmen took a 9-5 lead into the half.

Heckman and Malave combined to balloon the Southern New Hampshire advantage to its largest of the game with bookend goals to start and close the quarter. Heckman opened the second half with two tallies, both setup by senior Eric Johnson (West Suffield, Conn.) at 5:15 and 6:03. Delea and Luke Tracy cut it to 11-7, but two more Penmen goals by Malave, one with 2:50 to go and the other just 14 seconds later, provided Southern New Hampshire with a comfortable lead moving to the fourth.

Joyce's final point of the afternoon came by way of a man-up goal from Malave midway through the fourth. It would prove to be the insurance the Penmen needed, as Franklin Pierce reeled off six consecutive goals to make it 14-13 with 1:16 left. It would be as close as the Ravens could get, however, and Southern New Hampshire left with its sixth-straight win.

Junior Tyler Walsh (Northampton, Mass.) upped his record to 6-0 with a 15-save performance that included eight in the first quarter to help the Penmen build an early lead. Sophomore Mark Beirne (Hooksett, N.H.) joined Heckman in raking in a team-high five groundballs, while Joyce picked up three in the win.

Notes:
- The Penmen are now just one win from tying the program record for most victories in a season. Southern New Hampshire has won eight games in a single campaign two occasions, with the last one coming in 1990.
- Joyce notched at least eight points for the fourth time this season. He has a multipoint outing in every game this season and  his last 17 contests dating back to the 2015 season.
- Walsh made at least 10 saves for the fourth time in six starts this season. His 50.6 save percentage ranks him No. 8 in the NE-10, as does his 10.80 goals against average.

What's Next:
Southern New Hampshire returns to Larkin Field on Wednesday (April 20) when it welcomes Saint Anselm College (7-3, 5-3 Northeast-10) for a Queen City Cup and Northeast-10 tilt under the lights at 7 p.m.
