Senior Mo Hannan (Scarborough, Maine) turned in a five-hit day, while junior Erin Morrissey (Commack, N.Y.) plated the go-ahead run in the eighth inning of game two as Southern New Hampshire University split a Northeast-10 Conference softball doubleheader with Stonehill College on Saturday. The Skyhawks took the opener, 5-1, before the Penmen claimed game two by a score of 6-5 in eight innings.

Sophomore Stephanie Martin (Milford, Mass.) earned the victory in Saturday's second game by tossing 5.2 innings of shutout relief. Martin allowed just four hits and struck out a pair to improve to 4-1.

After managing to push across a single run in game one, Southern New Hampshire scored four times in the top half of the first in game two. Hannan led off with a single to left center before seniors Lindsey Bolduc (Londonderry, N.H.) and Katie Caruso (Newton, Mass.) walked to load the bases. A wild pitch allowed Hannan to scamper across with the game's first run before another free pass was followed with a hit-by-pitch to make it 2-0. Morrissey stepped in next and shot a base hit through the right side to score Caruso, and junior Jessica Torsiello (Morris Plains, N.J.) drove in the fourth run of the frame with an infield hit.

The lead would not last for long, as Stonehill erased the lead with a three-run first and a two-run second to take a 5-4 advantage. After Michelle Carbone connected on a two-out, two-run homer in the first, Alison Sumski made it back-to-back long balls with a solo shot to cut the Penmen lead to a single run. The hosts knotted the score in the second when an Emily Padilla bunt was mishandled and Olivia Peterson made her way across the plate. Two batters later, Megan Staudle laid down a squeeze bunt to bring in Taylor Lester with the go-ahead run.

The back-and-forth affair carried into the third with Southern New Hampshire pushing across the equalizer. Torsiello smacked a two-out double to right center, and after a walk to sophomore Katie Horiuchi (Livingston, N.J), Hannan laced a single up the middle that scored Torsiello and made it a five-all game.

Neither side was able to add to its run total for the next five innings, as Martin held the Skyhawk offense in check while the combination of Michelle Carbone and Sarah Ropiak kept the Penmen hitters off balance.

Morrissey delivered what proved to be the game-winning run in the top of the eighth. Sophomore Sarah Lavallee (Candia, N.H.) started the two-out rally with a base hit through the left side before junior Devan Rabidou (Ashland, Mass.) added a single of her own to put a pair of runners on. Morrissey followed with a single up the middle, and Lavallee cruised in to give the visitors a 6-5 edge.

Morrissey finished 2-for-5 with two RBI in the finale, and Torsiello (2-for-4) also picked up a pair of hits in the triumph. Freshman Erin Garczynski (Norwood, Mass.) went 2-for-3 with a double while Hannan was 2-for-5 with a run scored and one driven in.

Game one saw all of the offense put forth in the first four innings. The hosts grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first on a two-run single off the bat of Sumski. After Bolduc trimmed the deficit to a single run in the third with a base hit to right center that scored Hannan, Lianna Jordan dropped a bunt single to score Lauren Esposito and regain a two-run edge for the Stonehill. Staudle capped the scoring and put the game out of reach in the Skyhawks' next turn to the plate with a double to left center that brought home Padilla and Esposito to provide the 5-1 margin of victory.

Despite surrendering just one earned run, Lavallee suffered the setback in the circle. She went the distance and allowed seven hits and a walk while fanning six. Her  counterpart, Ropiak, improved to 9-6 with a similar line. Ropiak fired a complete game and gave up one earned run, scattered seven hits and struck out four while walking two.

Notes:
- The Penmen edged Stonehill in the hit column, 17-16, on the day but Southern New Hampshire also committed four errors compared to the Skyhawks' one.
- With five hits on Saturday, Hannan moved into fifth place on the career hits list at Southern New Hampshire (151). Over her last 10 games, Hannan in hitting at a .500 clip (20-for-40) with 11 runs scored, five doubles and four RBI. Hannan has had at least two hits in eight of those 10 contests.
