NORTHEAST-10 RELEASE
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore Sarah Lavallee (Candia, N.H.) of Southern New Hampshire University was named the 2016 Northeast-10 Conference softball Pitcher of the Year, as the league announced its annual All-Conference and major award winners on Tuesday. A total of four Penmen garnered all-league accolades.
Lavallee is joined by senior outfielder Mo Hannan (Scarbrough, Maine) on the All-Conference First Team, while junior first baseman Erin Morrissey (Commack, N.Y.) and freshman catcher Erin Garczynski (Norwood, Mass.) were each Second Team honorees.
Lavallee has been dominant in the circle for Southern New Hampshire this season. In 24 appearances and 21 starts, she boasts a 15-5 record with a league-best 1.40 earned run average and 109 strikeouts in 149.2 innings pitched. Lavallee fired 12 complete games and surrendered one earned run or less in 14 appearances while hurling an NE-10 leading eight shutouts. She's fanned at least five on 12 occasions and allowed five hits or fewer 12 times thus far.
Hannan is a First Team All-Conference performer for the second consecutive season. The senior centerfielder has been one of the top table setters in the region this year, as she is hitting at a .391 clip with a .434 on-base percentage and slugging .549. Her 52 hits rank sixth in the league, and Hannan is ninth in the NE-10 in both batting average and total bases (73), No. 11 in OBP and checks in at No. 16 in slugging percentage. She has reached base safely in 31 of the Penmen's 37 games thus far, and has scored 29 runs while driving in 20 with four home runs and nine doubles. Defensively, Hannan has been flawless as she has not committed an error and has an outfield assist in 43 total chances.
Morrissey collects All-Conference recognition for the first time in her career after batting .315 during the course of the regular season. The junior has collected 35 hits, eight RBI, scored three times and has 11 multi-hit outings. Morrissey has posted an on-base percentage of .350 and a fielding percentage of .990 after committing just three errors in 287 total chances at first base. She currently ranks fourth in the Northeast-10 in putouts (276) and is fifth in total chances.
In addition to being named to Second Team All-Northeast-10, Garczynski was also chosen to the league's All-Rookie team after a standout freshman campaign. She is hitting .342 with three home runs and 16 RBI, while also posting a .427 on-base percentage and a .477 slugging percentage. Garczynski has been even more impressive at the plate in league play, as she has a .389 batting average, is slugging .528 and reaches base at a .470 clip. She has twice put together hitting streaks of at least eight games, with the first spanning eight contests from March 16 through March 26, and the second reaching nine games from April 14 through April 22. Garczynski has played error-free defense behind the plate and in the outfield, with 23 assists and 101 putouts in 124 total chances.
Southern New Hampshire captured its fourth straight Northeast Division title and earned a double-bye into the Northeast-10 Conference Championship semifinals, which will be held on the campus of Pace University. The Penmen will face Merrimack College, Assumption College or Le Moyne College on Friday, April 29 at noon for the right to advance to the NE-10 Championship final.
