NORTHEAST-10 RELEASE
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore Ricardo Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal) was selected as the Northeast-10 Rookie of the Year and head coach Greg Coache was tabbed as the league's Coach of the Year to headline a list of 10 honors for eight different members of the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team as the conference office announced its end-of-the-year awards Wednesday.
Marreiros, in addition to being named the conference's top rookie, received an All-Conference Second Team selection at No. 1 singles, a First Team accolade at No. 2 doubles and an All-Rookie Team nod. Marreiros went 24-10 overall, including 16-2 in league play, as he was 12-5 with an 8-1 conference mark in both singles and doubles action. The two-time NE-10 Player of the Week and four-time Rookie of the Week has captured nine of his last 11 singles matches at the No. 1 slot and 10 of his last 11 doubles tilts, including seven straight.
Coache garnered his seventh NE-10 Coach of the Year award, including his third on the men's side. Coache guided the Penmen to a 12-7 regular-season record, including their first undefeated Northeast-10 slate at 10-0, as well as the first NE-10 Regular-Season Championship in program history.
Marreiros' brother, fellow sophomore Miguel Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal), was chosen for the First Team at No. 2 singles, as well as the Second Team at No. 1 doubles. Marreiros produced a 19-13 overall record, including a 15-3 league mark. Marreiros went 9-7 in singles action, including 8-1 in the Northeast-10, while going 10-6 in doubles with a 7-2 conference record. Marreiros has been triumphant in eight of his last 11 singles matches, in addition to nine of his last 11 doubles matchups.
Fellow sophomore Tiago Fernandes (Porto, Portugal) notched a First Team selection at No. 4 singles after producing a 15-6 record, including a perfect 10-0 mark in NE-10 action. Fernandes also shared the Second Team honor for No. 1 doubles with his partner, Miguel Marreiros, as the two went 7-6 in doubles play, including 7-2 within the conference. Fernandes was 11-13 overall at doubles, including 8-2 in league action. Fernandes has won 10 of his last 11 singles matches, including six-in-a-row, as well as eight of 11 in doubles play.
Sophomore Jeremy Reichentahl (Cheshire, Conn.) rounded out the singles honors for the Penmen with a Second Team selection at No. 5 singles. Reichentahl was 8-9 overall in singles play, while turning in a 5-2 mark in the Northeast-10. Reichentahl has been victorious in five of his last six matches, including four straight.
Sophomore Xavier Aubron (Herouville, France) shared the First Team award at No. 2 doubles with partner Ricardo Marreiros. The duo was 9-5 as a combo, including 8-1 in league play.
Freshman Max Georgeff (Toronto, Ontario) and sophomore Sebastian Ramirez (Merida, Venezuela) earned Second Team recognition at No. 3 doubles after putting together a 6-3 overall record, including 4-1 in conference action. The tandem has captured five of the last six matches it has played together.
The top-seeded Penmen return to action Friday, April 29 (2 p.m.) when they play host to Wednesday's winner of fourth-ranked Bentley University and fifth-ranked Le Moyne College in a Northeast-10 Championship semifinal at the SNHU Tennis Courts.
