Sophomore Ricardo Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal) won a pair of matches, including a three-setter at No. 1 singles that clinched the match for the top-seeded Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team and sent it to a 5-2 victory against fourth-seeded Bentley University on Friday afternoon in a Northeast-10 Championship semifinal tilt at the SNHU Tennis Courts.
SNHU will now host third-seeded Adelphi, which knocked off second-seeded Merrimack, 5-1, Friday, on Sunday at 1 p.m. for the Northeast-10 Championship.
Southern New Hampshire led 2-1 following doubles as sophomores Miguel Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal) and Tiago Fernandes (Porto, Portugal) doubled up their opponents, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles and sophomores Ricardo Marreiros and Xavier Aubron (Herouville, France) posted an 8-0 victory at No. 2. Sophomores Sebastian Ramirez (Merida, Valenzuela) and Jeremy Reichentahl (Cheshire, Conn.) were narrowly edged at No. 3 doubles, 9-8 (7-1).
Aubron and Fernandes gave the Penmen a 4-1 advantage with 6-0, 6-3 wins at No. 3 against Dylan Granat and No. 4 against Chase Rosa, respectively. George Samander pulled out a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 triumph against Miguel Marreiros to bring the Falcons within 4-2.
Momentum seemed to be shifting as Brendan McCarthy answered Ricardo Marreiros' 6-2 first-set victory with a 6-1 win in the second set, but Marreiros recovered and registered a 6-3 match-clinching win in the third set.
Ramirez led Michael Fuca, 6-1, 1-0, at No. 5 singles when the match was settled, while Reichentahl trailed Daniel Camacho, 5-1, in a 6-6 first-set tiebreaker at No. 6 singles.
Notes:
-Southern New Hampshire reaches its fourth Northeast-10 title match – with all of them coming in the last six seasons.
-The Penmen will be searching for their second NE-10 Championship after capturing their first crown in 2014.
-SNHU has won 11 of its last 12, including 11 straight against Division II opponents.
-Fernandes has captured 11 straight singles matches against Division II foes.
-Southern New Hampshire sits fifth the latest Oracle/ITA Division II East Rankings.
-Ricardo Marreiros is ranked seventh among singles players in the region, while he and Aubron are the 10th-ranked doubles team in the East.

The Penmen are back in action Sunday, May 1 (1 p.m.) when they play host to Adelphi in the Northeast-10 Championship title match at the SNHU Tennis Courts. The match will move indoors to the Executive Health and Sports Center in Manchester if rain becomes a factor.
