Junior Devan Rabidou (Ashland, Mass.) went 2-for-3 and senior Lindsey Bolduc (Londonderry, N.H.) added an RBI double, but the Southern New Hampshire University softball team saw its season come to a close on Thursday with a 4-1 setback against Adelphi University in game two of the NCAA East Super Regional.
After being held to one hit in Wednesday's series opener, the Penmen struck for the game's first run in the bottom of the third. Senior Mo Hannan (Scarborough, Maine) worked a one-out walk before Bolduc cracked a run-scoring double to left center to make it 1-0.
The Panthers answered in the fifth by pushing across four runs to grab control of the contest. After Stephanie Staiano led off the frame with a double, Lauren Sandelier followed with a triple to even to score and leave a runner on third with nobody out. Two batters later, Christina Palmenteri reached on a throwing error that allowed the go-ahead run to score, and two batters after that, Nicoletta Cuccio connected on a two-run shot to make it 4-1.
Southern New Hampshire attempted to mount a comeback in the seventh, as it put a pair of runners on with nobody out. Rabidou singled to lead things off before junior Erin Morrissey (Commack, N.Y.) reached on a fielder's choice. The Penmen were unable to draw any closer, however, as a double play was followed by a fly out to right that ended the contest.
Sophomore Sarah Lavallee (Candia, N.H.) was saddled with the loss after working the first 4.2 innings and allowing just one earned run on six hits while striking out two. Junior Nicole Gubellini (Salem, N.H.) tossed the final 2.1 innings, and did not allow a hit while fanning a pair
