Men's Golf Submits Best Round of NCAA National Championship; Finishes 16th

Senior Jake Nutter (Bedford, N.H.) fired a 3-under 69 on Thursday as the Southern New Hampshire University men's golf team turned in its best round of the tournament, but finished tied for 16th overall to end its time at the NCAA National Championship, hosted by Metro State University of Denver at Green Valley Ranch Golf Club.

The Penmen collectively shot 293 to best their Wednesday score by one stroke and finish with an 884, which matched fellow East Region foe Saint Thomas Aquinas College and was 11 shots better than Northeast-10 member Le Moyne College. SNHU completed its three rounds 18 strokes back of the eighth-place cut line, while Saint Leo University finished first with a 26-under 838 and earned the No. 1 seed for the match play portion of the Championship.

Nutter produced the best round of the Championship for a Penmen and finished with a 1-under 215 to place 23rd.

Freshman Matt Paradis (Hooksett, N.H.) carded his second best round of the tournament with an even-par 72 and also finished even for the Championship with a 216 that placed him 27th.

Freshman Gavin Dugas (Pittsfield, Maine) matched 75s from Monday and Tuesday to finish 74th with a 225.

Sophomore Joshua LaCasse (Bow, N.H.) carded his best score of the tournament with a 77 and closed out the Championship in 105th with a 238.

Notes:
- Southern New Hampshire was making its first appearance ever at the NCAA National Championship.
- The 16th-place showing is the highest finish for a New England team since Bryant University placed 13th in 2004.
- Junior John Clancy (Sandwich, Mass.) shot his worst round of the three with a 79 that brought his total to 230 and placed him 92nd.
- The NCAA National Championship was comprised of 108 student-athletes from 28 different institutions. The 20 schools competing as a team advanced from four regional sites. The top eight teams now move on to match play.
