Paradis Wins Individual NE10 Title; Men's Golf Finishes Fourth, Overall

RESULTS

When and Where: October 3, 2017 – New London, N.H. (Lake Sunapee Country Club – Par 70)
Score:
Southern New Hampshire University – 603 (4th/10)

Sophomore Matt Paradis (Hooksett, N.H.) fired only the second even-par round of the tourney to force a playoff and win individual medalist honors, as the Southern New Hampshire University men's golf team shot the second best final round Tuesday to finish fourth at the Northeast-10 Championship, which it hosted, at the Lake Sunapee Country Club.

After a 3-over 73 that had him tied for eighth heading into the final round, Paradis matched the lowest score of the tournament with a 70 to charge up the leaderboard and force a playoff with Saint Anselm College's Stephen Hunt, who followed his opening-round 71 with a 72 Tuesday. Paradis, who was named to the Northeast-10 All-Championship Team after the tournament, made par on the first hole to win the playoff and become SNHU's first individual Northeast-10 Champion since 2014.

After each shooting a 77 Monday, juniors Sam Riemer (Canton, Mass.) and Joshua LaCasse (Bow, N.H.) both carded a 76 in the final round to finish tied for 23rd with a two-round total of 153.

Sophomore Garret Olivar (Manchester, N.H.), who did not factor in the scoring with a 79 in the opening round, also turned in a 76 to tabulate a 155.

Junior Tyler Silver (Lebanon, N.H.) had his 79 dropped from the team score and completed the tournament with a 157.

Notes:
- Bentley University held on by one stroke to defeat Le Moyne College, which turned in the best round of the day, 592-593. Saint Anselm finished third with a 594.
- Paradis and Hunt finished two strokes ahead of the College of Saint Rose's Alex Gibson, who carded a 145.
- The last Penmen to win the individual title in 2014 was Jake Nutter, who torched the same Lake Sunapee course with a 6-under 134 to win by nine strokes.
- The Northeast-10 Championship is comprised of 50 student-athletes from 10 institutions.
- By finishing ahead of Southern New Hampshire, Saint Anselm earns two points in the Queen City Cup standings and now trails by just one, 6-5, in the battle for Manchester supremacy.
