NORTHEAST-10 RELEASE
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Junior Melanie Rennie (Madison, Conn.) of the Southern New Hampshire University field hockey team was named the Northeast-10 Conference Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday, as the League announced its final weekly honors recipients of the 2017 season. It marked the second time Rennie was feted this year.
Rennie turned in a pair of shutout efforts last week, leading the Penmen to wins over Saint Michael's College and Southern Connecticut State University. After registering 10 saves en route to holding the Purple Knights scoreless through 100 minutes of regulation and two overtimes, she denied each of the five shootout attempts she faced to secure the victory. Against the Owls, she kept a clean sheet for the first 49:46 before being relieved by senior Alexis Soucy (Windsor, Maine) for the final 20:14. Rennie closed out the year third in the NE10 in save percentage (.802), fifth in goals against average (1.48) and seventh in saves (97).
The Penmen wrapped up their 2017 campaign with an overall record of 8-9 and a 4-8 mark within the confines of the NE10.
