Junior Tyler Silver (Lebanon, N.H.) fired a 2-over 74 in the second round to finish the first day of the McDonough Cup with a 150, as the Southern New Hampshire University men's golf team tied for 13th following Monday's opening day of play at the Rio Pinar Country Club.
Silver opened Monday's first round with a 76 and sits tied for 21st following the initial 36 holes.
Junior Sam Riemer (Canton, Mass.) is 9-over and tied for 38th with a 153, after shooting 76 and 77, respectively, in the first two rounds.
Sophomore Matt Paradis (Hooksett, N.H.) is not far behind, tied for 46th, after turning in a pair of 77s to total a 154.
Sophomore Drew Kane (Scarborough, Maine) rounded out the Penmen scorers with a 165 (81/84), while junior Joshua LaCasse (Bow, N.H.), who did not factor in the team scoring, finished with a 175 (81/94).
Sophomore Garret Olivar (Manchester, N.H.), playing as an individual, is tied for 38th with a 153 after shooting 77 and 76 in the first two respective rounds.
Notes:
- Newberry College leads through the first two rounds with a 2-over 578, which is seven strokes better than Rollins College, which is in second place.
- Newberry's Spencer Skiff and Harry Bolton, along with Rollins' Barry Babbitt, top the leaderboard with 4-under 140s.
- Olivar is tied for the fourth highest number of birdies with seven, while Paradis is tied for 10th with six birdies.
- The McDonough Cup is comprised of 102 student-athletes from 18 institutions.
