Graduate student Xavier Aubron (Herouville, France) and sophomore Bas van Biezen (Sassenheim, Netherlands) did not drop a game in singles play, as the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team opened Northeast-10 play with an 8-1 victory against crosstown-rival Saint Anselm College on Wednesday afternoon at the SNHU Tennis Courts.

Seniors Miguel Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal) and Tiago Fernandes (Porto, Portugal) set the tone right away, blanking Eric Howes and Kyle Harris, 8-0, at No. 1 doubles to give Southern New Hampshire a 1-0 lead. Senior Jeremy Reichentahl (Cheshire, Conn.) and Ricardo Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal) then took down Brian Kavanagh and Benji Page, 8-2, at No. 3 doubles, before Aubron and van Biezen toppled Adam Weinstein and Daniel Kmetz by the same 8-2 score at No. 2 to provide a sweep of doubles.

Aubron's 6-0, 6-0 victory against Kmetz at No. 4 singles made it 4-0 in favor of the hosts, with Fernandes clinching the match at No. 1 singles, as he posted a 6-0, 6-2 win over Howes.

Miguel Marreiros breezed to a 6-2, 6-1 triumph against Kavanagh at No. 3 singles, with Ricardo Marreiros notching the same score at No. 2 against Weinstein. van Biezen then recorded his 6-0, 6-0 shutout over Harris at No. 5 singles to make it 7-0 before Saint Anselm squeaked out a win at No. 6.

Notes:
-The Penmen begin the season 2-0 for the third straight year.
-Southern New Hampshire extends its NE10 winning streak, including the postseason, to 24 straight, dating back to Oct. 15, 2015.
-SNHU claims two more points in the Queen City Cup standings and now leads Saint Anselm, 8-5, in the battle for Manchester supremacy.
