Junior Kylie Lorenzen (Holliston, Mass.) poured in a game-high 18 points, including the game-tying and game-winning baskets at the end of overtime, to lead the Southern New Hampshire University women's basketball team to a 68-66 victory against Saint Michael's College in the Northeast-10 opener Wednesday night at the Ross Sports Center.

Lorenzen shot 7 of 21 from the field, including 1 of 2 from beyond the arc, and 3 of 4 at the stripe, while ripping down 13 rebounds and a dishing a pair of assists. Junior Brianna Camara (Fall River, Mass.) posted 16 points (6-10 FG, 3-5 3-FG, 1-2 FT), five rebounds, three assists and two steals, while senior Catherine Stinson (Lynn, Mass.) recorded 10 points (4-11 FG, 1-2 3-FG, 1-2 FT) and seven boards.

Samantha Delaney led the Purple Knights with 17 points and 17 rebounds. Nicole Anderson added 15 points, with Brianna Purcell chipping in 11.

Leading by three with the ball and under 30 seconds remaining in regulation, Saint Michael's gave Southern New Hampshire life when it committed an offensive foul, while trying to avoid the inevitable SNHU foul to take time off the clock. The Penmen capitalized following a timeout, as Lorenzen buried a 3-pointer – her first of the season – from the top of the key to knot the game at 66-all with 20 seconds remaining.

Another turnover by the Purple Knights off a steal by sophomore Victoria Dean (Plymouth, Mass.) with 10 seconds left would again set the Penmen up, as Lorenzen received an outlet pass and went nearly the length of the floor before slicing through a pair of defenders and tossing up a right-handed layup off the glass that fell through the net with one second showing on the clock.

Dean chimed in with eight points in her first extended action of the season.

Eight points from Camara carried a 12-2 stretch to begin the game for Southern New Hampshire over the opening 6:10. Following five straight points from Anderson, the Penmen would answer with a 9-3 run – sparked by a 3-pointer from sophomore Molly Terry (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and highlighted by four points from freshman Sarah Deyo (Attleboro, Mass.) – to open a 21-10 lead with 2:40 to go in the first quarter. SNHU would take a 23-12 advantage into the second stanza.

A triple from Dean just over two minutes into the second quarter would give Southern New Hampshire its largest lead of the night at 26-14, but an 11-3 run – with six points from Cassandra Falone and five from Anderson – slashed the Saint Michael's deficit to 31-27 with under two minutes to go before the break. The Penmen would hold onto a 34-29 lead at the half.

After a Stinson bucket opened the second-half scoring, seven straight from the Purple Knights left the game tied, 36-36, before 3-pointers from Stinson, Terry and Dean powered a 10-0 blitz that quickly gave the Penmen a 46-36 advantage with under four minutes to go in the third quarter. Southern New Hampshire would bring a 54-43 lead into the final frame.

Five straight Anderson points sparked a 7-0 surge that trimmed the Saint Michael's deficit to 54-50 less than two minutes into the stanza. With the gap at five with less than three minutes remaining, layups from Delaney and Purcell would bring the Purple Knights within one at 59-58 with 1:35 on the clock.

After Saint Michael's stole the ball and was fouled, Delaney would hit one of two at the line to leave the game knotted with 50 seconds left. A Southern New Hampshire turnover would give the hosts one last shot at stealing the win, but a missed 3-pointer would send the game to overtime.

In the extra session, the teams traded buckets before five straight gave Saint Michael's a 66-61 lead with 37 seconds left. Camara dropped in a layup to make it a three-point contest just eight seconds later and set up the thrilling ending for the Penmen.

Terry netted nine points (3-10 FG, 2-6 3-FG, 1-1 FT), while Deyo added four points (2-6 FG) and eight rebounds. Freshman Gyanna Russell (E. Hampton, Conn.) chipped in three points (3-4 FG), three rebounds and two assists.
