Junior Kylie Lorenzen (Holliston, Mass.) scored 17 points and tied her career high with 15 rebounds, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's basketball team was defeated by Stonehill College, 65-53, Saturday afternoon at the SNHU Fieldhouse.

Lorenzen was 4-for-15 from the field and 9-for-10 from the line, while also adding three steals to her line.

Kelly Martin led all scorers with 28 points for the Skyhawks, while Samantha Hyslip added 14 points and nine boards.

Four points from freshman Sarah Deyo (Attleboro, Mass.) powered a game-opening 8-2 run for Southern New Hampshire that spanned the initial three-and-a-half minutes. Stonehill whittled the deficit to three before a 3-pointer from junior Brianna Camara (Fall River, Mass.) and a pair of free throws by senior Catherine Stinson (Lynn, Mass.) gave the Penmen their largest lead of the contest at 17-9 with just under three minutes to go in the first quarter. Stonehill answered with 10 straight, including five from Martin, to grab a 19-17 advantage at the end of one.

Four consecutive points from Martin to open the second quarter extended the run to 14 and widened the gap to six just over two minutes in. SNHU would get within a pair before Stonehill capped the half with a 9-2 rush that gave it a 35-26 halftime lead.

The Skyhawks opened the second half with another 9-2 push – highlighted by a pair of 3-pointers from Martin – to balloon the lead to 44-28 less than three-and-a-half minutes in. Treys from sophomore Molly Terry (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and freshman Gyanna Russell (E. Hampton, Conn.) bookended an 8-2 counter-run that trimmed the Penmen deficit to an even 10 just over two minutes later, but Stonehill responded with a 12-3 blitz – with five points from Grace Carter and four from Hyslip – to run the lead to 39-58 with 1:10 on the clock. The visitors would lead it, 58-40, heading into the final frame.

Following a pair of free throws from Lorenzen to begin the fourth quarter, a 5-0 spurt gave Stonehill its largest lead of the afternoon at 63-42 less than two minutes in. A pair of three-point plays from Lorenzen bookended a 9-0 run that stopped the bleeding and trimmed the Southern New Hampshire deficit to 63-51 with under two minutes to go.

Stinson recorded eight points (3-6 FG, 2-2 FT) and three rebounds, with Terry also adding eight points (3-10 FG, 2-8 3-FG), to go along with four steals and a pair of assists. Camara tallied six points (2-9 FG, 1-3 3-FG, 1-2 FT), six rebounds, a career-best five steals and four helpers. Deyo chimed in with four points (2-8 FG) and six rebounds.
