Sophomore Erin Garczynski (Norwood, Mass.) went 4-for-8 with a home run and six runs batted in, and junior Katie Horiuchi (Livingston, N.J.) turned in a 3-for-7 afternoon that featured two home runs, five RBI, a double and four runs scored to lead the Southern New Hampshire University softball team to a doubleheader sweep of Felician University and Kutztown University at the Ned Donkle Complex in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina Saturday. The Penmen rallied for a 7-6 victory over the Golden Eagles in the opener before overcoming an early deficit to dispatch the Golden Bears, 7-3.

Freshman Erin Tyrell (Milford, N.H.) was 3-for-6 with a homer and three RBI in the twinbill, while junior Sarah Lavallee (Candia, N.H.) chipped in with two hits and picked up a victory in the circle.

Saturday's first tilt did not have the start Southern New Hampshire anticipated, as Felician jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the top half of the first. Zeaenna Brackett led off the contest with a base hit before coming around to score two batters later on a double by Mia Montoya. Nicole Spiegelberg followed with a run-scoring single that double the Golden Falcons' edge, but they were unable to generate any additional offense and stranded a two baserunners to close out the frame.

The Penmen answered quickly with a single run in the home half of the inning to cut the deficit in half. Junior Brittany Perdigao (Stoughton, Mass.) reached on a throwing error and advanced to second by virtue of the errant toss. After a wild pitch moved her up to third, Garczynski drove in Perdigao with an RBI ground out.

The score remained unchanged until the bottom of the third when Southern New Hampshire struck for three runs to take its first lead and build a 4-2 cushion. Horiuchi doubled to lead off the frame, and after Perdigao sacrificed her to third, Garczynski unloaded on the first pitch she saw and delivered a two-run shot to left center to give the Penmen a 3-2 edge. The one-run advantage would be short-lived, however, as Tyrell stepped in next and drilled the second pitch of her at-bat over the wall in left to make it 4-2.

After another scoreless trip to the plate for the Golden Falcons, Garczynski and Tyrell did more damage in the fourth. Southern New Hampshire loaded the bases by way of a leadoff walk, a one-out base on balls and a two-out free pass. Garczynski tagged a 2-0 pitch to right that drove in senior Devan Rabidou (Ashland, Mass.) and freshman Hannah Neverett (Nashua, N.H.) and left runners on the corners with two away for Tyrell. Tyrell followed suit with an RBI single through the left side to plate Perdigao and put the Penmen in front, 7-2.

Felician attempted to mount a late comeback with three runs in the sixth and an additional run in the seventh. Jackie Duenas connected on a two-run triple in the sixth before scoring on a Montoya single. Steph Donah brought the Golden Falcons within a single run in the top of the seventh with a leadoff home run to straightaway center, but it would be as close as they would come.

Lavallee earned the win for Southern New Hampshire after going 6.2 innings and scattering 10 hits, surrendering two earned runs, a pair of walks and striking out two. Lavallee worked the first five innings of play before freshman Gabriella Vachon (Newton, Mass.) started the sixth and tossed a third of an inning. Vachon was charged with three earned runs, and Lavallee reentered in the sixth to close out the contest.

The Penmen once again fell behind in game two, as Kutztown staked itself to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. SNHU wasted little time in responding, as it tacked on two runs in the home half to take a 3-1 advantage. Neverett and Perdigao each collected one-out singles before moving up to second and third on a passed ball. Horiuchi then reached on an error that plated Neverett with the game's tying run, and Garczynski followed by delivering a sacrifice fly to bring in Perdigao with the second run of the inning. Tyrell was next to the plate, and she continued her torrid start with an RBI single to left that drove in Horiuchi.

The Golden Bears evened the score in the fifth with a two-run frame to make it three-all. Cheyenne Jones connected on a solo shot to left with one away, and two batters later, Tamara Jennings doubled home Angie Carty to restart the game after four and a half innings.

Horiuchi reestablished a lead for Southern New Hampshire in the bottom of the fifth, as she connected on a solo shot to make it 4-3. Horiuchi was far from finished, and she struck again in her next at-bat. Neverett reached on an error with two away in the sixth before Perdigao was hit by a pitch. Horiuchi dug in next and launched a three-run bomb to right center and provided the Penmen with the final margin of victory.

Gubellini toed the slab for SNHU in game two and turned in a complete-game effort. She fanned five, walked one and allowed two earned runs while spreading around eight hits.

Notes:
- The Penmen were outhit by Felician, 13-6, in the opener before turning the tables on Kutztown in the finale, 9-8. Southern New Hampshire committed three miscues in Saturday's first game compared to one by the Golden Falcons. SNHU took advantage of three Golden Bears errors in game two and scored just one earned run.
- Horiuchi entered Saturday's second game with two home runs in 100 career at-bats before doubling that mark in just four trips to the plate. She is 4-for-12 through five games and three of her hits have gone for extra bases.
- With a pair of hits in Saturday's opener and another in the finale, Tyrell extended her hitting streak to five games. She currently leads the Penmen with seven hits in 16 trips to the plate.
