Junior Tiago Fernandes (Porto, Portugal) was victorious at No. 1 singles, but the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team fell to the University of Connecticut, 8-1, Friday at the East Hartford Tennis Club.
Fernandes toppled Christopher Toner in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, to earn SNHU's only win of the day.
Junior Xavier Aubron (Herouville, France) and freshman Bas van Biezen (Sassenheim, Netherlands) came the closest to pulling out a win in doubles, dropping their No. 2 match to Hank Hill and Justin Warren, 6-4.
In singles play, junior Jeremy Reichentahl (Cheshire, Conn.) nearly forced a third set against Jonathan Edwards at No. 6, falling, 6-0, 7-6.
Notes:
-The Penmen are still 6-0 against non-Division I teams.
-SNHU is ranked fourth in the Oracle/ITA East Regional Rankings.
