When and Where: March 11, 2017 – Lakewood, N.J. (Georgian Court University)
Score: Southern New Hampshire University 13, Alderson Broaddus University 4
Records: SNHU 1-1, ABU 0-3

The Southern New Hampshire University men's lacrosse team scored 12 times in the first half on Saturday, including five goals in the opening nine minutes, en route to a 13-4 victory over Alderson Broaddus University in nonconference lacrosse action on the campus of Georgian Court University.

Senior Keifer Heckman (Peabody, Mass.) and sophomore Tom Schutz (Trumbull, Conn.) each registered first half hat tricks for the Penmen, while senior Daniel Trainor (Billerica, Mass.) also turned in a three-point afternoon with a goal and two assists.

Southern New Hampshire generated all the offense it would need Saturday in the first 9:23 of action, as it opened the contest on a 5-0 run. Junior Zach Tanner (Woburn, Mass.) tallied the game's first goal 1:47 into the first, before senior Patrick Goff (Nashua, N.H.) won the ensuing draw and raced to the cage to bury his first of the year eight seconds later. Schutz potted back-to-back goals at 4:44 and 7:05 to extend the advantage to four goals, and Heckman capped the run with his first of the day with 5:37 remaining in the opening stanza.

The two sides traded scores for the remainder of the first, as Nicholas Williams and Connar Abrams found the back of the net for the Battlers, and junior Chris West (Albany, N.Y.) depositing his first of the season before Schutz finished his hat trick at 14:37.

After Alderson Broaddus trimmed the Penmen lead to four just under four minutes into the second, SNHU closed the quarter with another five-goal burst to take a 12-3 lead into the half. Trainor netted his third of the year with 6:06 left in the frame and junior Corey Cairo (Wading River, N.Y.) followed with his second at 12:58. Heckman tallied a man-up marker just 33 seconds later to make it 10-3, and after senior Zach Jacobs (Tewksbury, Mass.) put away his second of the season from Trainor with 29 seconds left before the intermission, Heckman closed out the first half scoring 15 seconds later off a feed from freshman Tyler Mello (Acushnet, Mass.).

Senior Cameron McGuire (Melrose, Mass.) accounted for all of the Southern New Hampshire scoring in the final 30 minutes, as he buried his second in as many games midway through the third quarter. The Battlers netted the lone goal of the fourth quarter to provide the final margin of scoring.

Junior Michael Brawley (Tewksbury, Mass.) earned his first victory of the season after stopping three shots in the opening 25:35 of play. Senior Tyler Walsh (Northampton, Mass.) made one save during the following 6:19 before classmate Matt McIntire (Milford, Mass.) steered aside a team-high eight shots in the ensuing 24:41. Freshman Jacob Dionne (Windham, Maine) closed out the final 3:25 with one save in his first career appearance.

Kier Yonge and Branden Hunt led the Alderson Broaddus attack with a goal and an assist apiece, and Joseph Varela suffered the setback between the pipes despite making 12 saves in 60 minutes.

Notes:
- The Penmen have nine of their last 10 games dating back to the 2014 season in which they hold the opposition to less than 10 goals.
- After reaching the 100-point milestone in Sunday's season opener at Merrimack College, Heckman's three-point day moves him into a tie for No. 22 all-time in career scoring at Southern New Hampshire. He generated multiple points for the 16th time in his last 17 games, and now has at least one point in 29 of his previous 33 appearances dating back to the 2014 campaign. Of those 29 games, Heckman has two points or more in 25 contests.
- Goff raked in a game-high seven groundballs and finished 9-for-11 at the faceoff X. Goff helped the Penmen win 12 of the 19 draws on Saturday, and since the start of the 2015 season, SNHU is 7-3 in games it has the advantage in faceoffs.
- Southern New Hampshire held a 41-31 edge in shots and a 26-16 lead in shots on goal. The Penmen also finished 13-for-15 in clear attempts and held the Battlers scoreless on five man-up opportunities.
