Sophomore Erin Garczynski (Norwood, Mass.) finished 4-for-8 at the plate with an RBI, a pair of extra-base hits and two runs scored on Wednesday, as the Southern New Hampshire University softball team rallied to split a nonconference doubleheader with Rollins College at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park. The Penmen came from behind to take their Florida finale, 13-8, after falling to the Tars in game one, 9-1.

Garczynski was 2-for-3 in Wednesday's opener, and closed out her evening with a 2-for-5 showing that included a double, a triple and an RBI. Senior Erin Morrissey (Commack, N.Y.) was 4-for-6 in Wednesday's twinbill, which included a 3-for-4 performance that featured a pair of RBI and a run scored in the finale. Junior Katie Horiuchi (Livingston, N.J.) also finished finished 3-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs in game two, while junior Sarah Lavallee (Candia, N.H.) collected three hits and two doubles in four trips to the plate.

Southern New Hampshire jumped out to a quick lead in Wednesday's second game, as it plated two runs in the top of the first. Junior Brittany Perdigao (Stoughton, Mass.) led off with a base hit, and after Horiuchi moved her into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt, Garczynski drilled a triple down the right field line to put the Penmen ahead, 1-0. Garczynski came into score two batters later on a passed ball to give SNHU a two-run cushion through half an inning.

Rollins responded in the home half of the frame with a four-running inning to take a two-run lead of its own. Chelsea Reed tagged an RBI triple with one away before Brianne Lint pushed her across with a safety squeeze. Two batters later, Grace Street connected on a two-run shot to make it 4-2 after one.

After a scoreless second for both sides, Southern New Hampshire exploded for six runs in the third. Horiuchi led off with a base hit to center and Garczynski followed with a double to the opposite field. Lavallee was intentionally walked to load the bases with one away before freshman Jordan Wade (Taunton, Mass.) crushed a two-run double to the gap in left center to knot the score at four. Senior Jessica Torsiello (Morris Plains, N.J.) stepped in next and blasted a three-run bomb to make it 7-4 in favor of the Penmen. Three batters later, Perdigao laced a double to right center that brought in senior Devan Rabidou (Ashland, Mass.), who reached on a two-out walk, to cap the inning's scoring.

The Tars again answered Southern New Hampshire, this time with two runs in the bottom of the third. Street reached on a two-out error before coming around to score on a Kacie Booth double. After a Tayler Holt single, Hali Marshall served a single into center to plate Booth with the second Rollins' run of the frame, and trim the Penmen lead to a pair at 8-6.

Southern New Hampshire continued its offensive onslaught in the top of the fourth by scoring four additional runs to establish a 12-6 edge. Tyrell and Lavallee reached with one away and after a groundout moved them to second and third with two outs, Torsiello walked to load the bases. Morrissey smacked a two-run single to right center before Rabidou shot a base hit through the left side to drive in the third run of the stanza. After Perdigao reached on an error to reload the bases, Horiuchi knocked in Morrissey with single into right.

In the sixth, Horiuchi dropped a base hit into right that drove in Rabidou before Rollins tacked on two runs of its own in the home half of the frame to provide the final margin of scoring.

Senior Nicole Gubellini (Salem, N.H.) upped her record to 3-1 on the year after allowing two runs, neither of which were earned, on five hits with a strikeout and a pair of walks. Freshman Gabriella Vachon (Newton, Mass.) worked the first 2.2 innings of game two and surrendered four earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts before handing the ball to Gubellini, who tossed the final 4.1 innings.

The Tars used a six-run first inning to take control of Wednesday's opener, as they plated five before the Penmen registered the first out of the frame. After Rollins loaded the bases, Lint reached on an infield single before Rachel Minier connected on a two-run double to make it 3-0. Street followed with an RBI single to left, and after a mishandled ball off the bat of Booth extended the lead to five, Claire Hamilton capped the inning's scoring with a sacrifice fly to center. The hosts' advantage increased to seven in the bottom of the second after Lint doubled to the gap in left center to score Sarah Harrison.

The score remained the same through the middle innings before Southern New Hampshire pushed across its first run of the ballgame in the top half of the sixth. Horiuchi led off the stanza with a walk before Garczynski reached on an error to put runners on the corners with nobody out. Tyrell stepped in next and tagged a single through the left side that brought in Horiuchi and trimmed the deficit to six. It would be as close as the Penmen would come, as the Tars retired the next three batters on a fly and double play, then tacked on two additional runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the contest.

Lavallee suffered the setback for Southern New Hampshire after surrendering five runs on three hits and two walks in the first. Freshman Maddy Barone (Halifax, Mass.) provided 5.1 innings of relief, and allowed three earned runs on eight hits while striking out five.

Notes:
- The Penmen wrap up their Florida swing with six wins in 10 games. Southern New Hampshire was 4-1 against regional opponents on the trip, and split four games against Sunshine State Conference foes. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (23) and Rollins (30), both of the SSC, had combined to play 53 games before facing SNHU.
- After the offense struggled to string anything together in game one, Southern New Hampshire set a season-high with 13 runs and 17 hits in game two. It was the Penmen's highest scoring output in a game since they hung 14 runs on Assumption College on April 9, 2016, and the most hits in a single contest since they rapped out 20 against the Greyhounds in the same game a season ago.
- Garczynski extended her hitting streak to nine games after a pair of multi-hit outings against the Tars. She has raised her batting average from .273 to .407 during that stretch, and is hitting .500 (16-for-32) during that stretch. Garczynski has six extra-base hits, 12 RBI and six runs scored over her last nine outings. Through 16 games this season, Garczynski leads the Penmen in hits (22), home runs (3), RBI (19), slugging percentage (.667) and batting average.
