When and Where: March 25, 2017 – Garden City, N.Y. (Janet L. Ficke Field)
Game One Score: Adelphi University 1, No. 21 Southern New Hampshire University 0
Game Two Score: Adelphi University 4, No. 21 Southern New Hampshire University 3 (10 innings)
Records: SNHU 11-7 (0-2 Northeast-10 Conference), Adelphi 10-8-1 (3-1 Northeast-10 Conference)

Freshman Maddy Barone (Halifax, Mass.) surrendered just one earned run in six-plus innings of work in game one, and senior Nicole Gubellini (Salem, N.H.) allowed an earned run in 4.1 innings during game two, but No. 21 Southern New Hampshire University dropped a pair of Northeast-10 Conference softball contests in walk off fashion to Adelphi University on Saturday. The Penmen fell to the Panthers, 1-0, in game one before dropping a 10-inning tilt in game two, 4-3.

Junior Brittany Perdigao (Stoughton, Mass.) and senior Jessica Torsiello (Morris Plains, N.J.) each reached base twice for Southern New Hampshire in the opener, as they accounted for both Penmen hits. Perdigao finished 1-for-3 with a walk, while Torsiello went 1-for-2 with a double and was hit by a pitch.

Despite only generating two hits in game one, Southern New Hampshire had a number of chances to push across the game's first run after working four free passes. In the top half of the first, Perdigao led off with a walk before moving into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt. She then advanced to third on a ground out, but it would be as far as she would get, as the ensuing batter fouled out the end the inning. In the sixth, junior Katie Horiuchi (Livingston, N.J.) drew a walk to start off the frame before freshman Erin Tyrell (Milford, N.H.) worked a base on balls two batters later to put two on with one away. A fielder's choice left runners on the corners with two outs, but the Penmen again stranded a runner in scoring position and the game remained scoreless.

Southern New Hampshire's best chance to plate the game's first run came in the top of the seventh, as Torsiello led things off with a double to center. Senior Erin Morrissey (Commack, N.Y.) moved her to third with one out, but Adelphi starter Lindsay Mapes again worked out of the jam to move the game to the home half of the seventh still knotted at zero.

Stephanie Staiano led off the frame with a double down the line in left, and after advancing to third on a wild pitch, Danielle Cutuli walked to put runners on the corners with nobody out. It would be the end of Barone's afternoon, as junior Sarah Lavallee (Candia, N.H.) took over and allowed an infield single before inducing a fly out to left. Krista King stepped in next and lifted a sacrifice fly to left that drove in Staiano, and provided the Panthers with the final margin of victory.

King again broke a scoreless tie in Saturday's second game, as her base hit in the bottom of the second plated Fallon McCarthy and gave the hosts a 1-0 lead.

The Penmen answered right back in the top of the third with a pair of two-out runs to take their first lead of the day. Horiuchi started the rally with a single to right center before sophomore Erin Garczynski (Norwood, Mass.) followed with a knock to left center. Tyrell connected on an RBI single to center to even the score at one apiece, and after Lavallee walked to load the bases, freshman Hannah Neverett (Nashua, N.H.) drew a free pass to force in the go-ahead run.

After Gubellini held Adelphi in check during the bottom of the frame, the Southern New Hampshire offense went back to work in the fourth. A single by Morrissey and a walk to senior Devan Rabidou (Ashland, Mass.) put a pair on with nobody out. Two batters later, Horiuchi walked to load the bases for Garczynski, who was the beneficiary of a Panthers' miscue that allowed the third Penmen run to come across.

The score remained unchanged until the bottom of the sixth when a Cutuli single brought Adelphi within one at 3-2. In the seventh, Lavallee retired the first two batters she faced before Nicole Camera smacked an inside the park home run to draw the Panthers even, and send the game to extra innings.

The Penmen had a golden opportunity in the eighth, as they loaded the bases with nobody out. After Lavallee walked, Neverett reached on a fielder's choice before an error off the bat of Torsiello left the sacks full. A 1-2-3 double play left runners on first and second with two away, and a line out ended the threat.

The two sides combined for one hit over the next two innings before Adelphi again used a two-out hit to win the game. Camera lined out to start the inning before the Southern New Hampshire defense executed a perfect relay to gun down Lauren Sandelier's attempt to stretch a double into a triple. Christina Rizzi singled and stole second for Staiano, who sent a base hit through the right side to bring in the winning run.

Jessica Vadala earned the win in the circle for the Panthers in game two after providing 6.2 innings of one-hit relief. Mapes upped her record to 6-3 in the opener with a complete game shutout that saw her fan four, walk four and allow just two hits.

Notes:
- The Penmen were outhit in the twinbill, 16-8, and were at a 12-6 disadvantage in game two. Southern New Hampshire allowed seven walks in the two-game set, compared to the nine free passes issued by Adelphi pitching.
- Both sides stranded nine baserunners in Saturday's finale, while SNHU left seven on in game one and the Panthers had five LOB.
