BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Redshirt-junior Ryan Sullivan (Hopkinton, Mass.) of the fourth-ranked Southern New Hampshire University baseball team was tabbed the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) East Region Hitter of the Week for the period ending April 30, it was announced Tuesday.
Sullivan, who was named the Northeast-10 Player of the Week on Monday, went 9-for-21 with three home runs, nine RBI and eight runs scored, slashing .429/.571/.905/1.476 during a 6-0 week for the Penmen. Sullivan, who homered in three straight days, opened the week by going 3-for-4 with a walk, home run two RBI and three runs scored in a 9-3 win against Saint Anselm College on Thursday and then went a perfect 3-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored in a 6-2 game-two win against Saint Michael's College on Friday. Sullivan capped the week with a 2-for-4, two-walk, three-RBI, two-runs-scored performance in a 14-4 victory at Assumption College on Sunday.
In 42 games this season, Sullivan is batting .276 (43-156) with a team-leading eight home runs, 37 RBI and 36 runs scored. He has walked 21 times to help bolster a .388 on-base percentage and racked up 14 extra-base hits for a .474 slugging mark to total a .862 OPS. Sullivan leads the NE10 in home runs and ranks third in RBI, and fifth in runs.
Sullivan and the Penmen (35-7), who are the top-ranked team in the NCBWA East Region Poll, return to action Thursday, May 2 (6 p.m.) when they play host to in-state rival Franklin Pierce University (28-12).
