Sophomore Matt Paradis (Hooksett, N.H.) carded a 2-under 67 Tuesday to finish 3-under for the tournament and win individual medalist honors, as the Southern New Hampshire University men's golf team won its own Penmen Fall Invitational at the Hanover Country Club.
Paradis, who sat in a five-way tie for third following his 1-under 68 in Monday's opening round, separated himself from the pack with his two-day total of 135, which gave him a two-shot victory.
Junior Sam Riemer (Canton, Mass.) climbed nine spots to finish tied for 10th after shooting a 1-over 70 that give him a 3-over 141 for the tourney.
Sophomore Ryan Anderson (Beverly, Mass.) matched Riemer's 70 to finish tied for 12th with a 4-over 142.
Junior Joshua LaCasse (Bow, N.H.) was the fourth Penmen to improve on their opening-round score with a 71. His two-day 143 left him in a tie for 18th.
Junior Tyler Silver (Lebanon, N.H.), who held a one-shot lead heading into the final round after firing a 66 on Monday, was forced to withdraw.
The remainder of the Penmen squad played as individuals, with sophomore Garret Olivar (Manchester, N.H.) leading the way with a ninth-place finish. Olivar shot an even-par 69, bettering Monday's round by two strokes to submit a 140.
Fellow sophomore Drew Kane (Scarborough, Maine) equaled his 71 from the first round to tie for 12th with a 142.
Sophomore Jacob Rosen (Johnston, R.I.) turned in a 148 (73/75), while senior Ben Scott (Lexington, Mass.), junior Etienne Bourgoin (Abington, Mass.) and freshman Jacob Cole (Hillsborough, N.H.) totaled 152 (75/77), 153 (73/80) and 154 (76/78), respectively.
Junior Tyler Cole (Bow, N.H.) was just behind with a 156 (76/80), while classmate Austin Baker (Litchfield, N.H.) recovered in a big way with a final-round 74 that was nine strokes better than his opening-round performance, leading to a 157. Sophomore James Trainor (Hudson, Mass.) rounded out the SNHU golfers with a 157 (76/81).
Notes:
- Paradis matched Post University's Michael Erickson with a tournament-high eight birdies.
- The Penmen Fall Invitational was comprised of 81 student-athletes from 14 institutions.
