Junior Kylie Lorenzen (Holliston, Mass.) registered a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's basketball team had its rally fall short in a 69-66 loss to the College of Saint Rose on Wednesday evening at Nolan Gymnasium.

Lorenzen was 3 of 8 from the floor and a perfect 8 of 8 at the line. Senior Catherine Stinson (Lynn, Mass.) also scored 14 points (6-11 FG, 1-2 3-FG, 1-1 FT) to go along with two assists and a pair of blocks, with freshman Gyanna Russell (E. Hampton, Conn.) adding 13 points (4-8 FG, 5-7 FT) off the bench to match her career high, while also collecting five rebounds

Isa Vara de Rey led the Golden Knights with 20 points, while Ashley Vanderwall chimed in with 12.

Trailing by an even 10 more than a minute into the fourth quarter, Southern New Hampshire scored eight straight – with three each from Russell and sophomore Molly Terry (Shrewsbury, Mass.) – to slash the deficit to 62-61 with 4:42 remaining. A pair of layups from Takora McIntyre, sandwiched around a trey from Vara de Rey, made up a 7-2 counter-run for the Golden Knights that gave them some breathing room at 69-63 with under a minute to go.

Junior Brianna Camara (Fall River, Mass.) converted a three-point play to make it a one-possession game with 45 seconds on the clock, but, following a Saint Rose miss at the other end, the Penmen came up empty on a chance to tie it as time expired.

Terry recorded eight points (3-10 FG, 2-9 3-FG), three assists and two steals, with Camara chipping in six points (2-6 FG, 1-3 3-FG, 1-1 FT) and four boards.

Neither team led by more than four points in the opening quarter until a 6-2 spurt gave Southern New Hampshire a 21-15 advantage with 1:35 to play. Saint Rose responded with consecutive 3-pointers from Cameron Graupman to knot the game at 21-all after one.

SNHU opened the second quarter with eight straight points – highlighted by 3-pointers from Terry and Camara – to grab a 29-21 lead less than two minutes in. Saint Rose ripped off a 23-7 counter-run, however – with 10 from Vara de Rey – to leapfrog in front, 44-36, at the break.

The Saint Rose lead was 52-41 midway through the third quarter when a 7-1 run – with the first four points coming from Lorenzen – trimmed the Penmen deficit to 53-48 with 1:44 to go. Saint Rose again answered, as five straight from Vanderwall sparked a 7-2 flurry that sent the hosts into the final frame with a 60-50 advantage.
