Junior Irem Bat (Istanbul, Turkey) posted 10 kills, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's volleyball team saw its five-match winning streak come to an end with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-15) loss to Adelphi University on Friday night at the Stan Spirou Field House.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Bat hit .304 to go with six digs, a service ace and a pair of blocks.
- Senior Jessica Dillon (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) dished 21 assists.
- Freshman Ramona Fontaine (Chelsea, Mass.) recorded three kills and three blocks, while junior Amanda Costales (Wantagh, N.Y.) added three kills and three digs.
- Junior Jaclyn Maguire (Rochester, N.Y.) and classmate Baylee Lippincott (Phoenix, Ariz.) each chimed in with four kills.
- Freshman Megan Palmer (Prior Lake, Minn.) collected a team-high seven digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In a tightly-contested opening set, the score was even at 18-all when Adelphi – powered by two kills each from Sara Bisbe and Sara Mandreja – rattled off seven of the next 10 points to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
- SNHU used a 6-0 run – with two kills from Bat and an ace from Palmer – to open up a 12-5 advantage in the second set. The Panthers responded with a 13-4 counter-run, however, to leap in front, 18-16. Mandreja came up with three kills during the stretch, while Bisbe added a pair of kills and an ace. The two teams would twice swap the lead before the match was tied at 22-22. A Bisbe kill sparked a 3-0 Adelphi run that put it up, 2-0, in the match.
- The Penmen owned a 14-13 edge in the final set, but the visitors wrapped it up with a 12-1 burst – highlighted by four Mandreja aces and a pair of Bisbe kills.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Adelphi outhit SNHU in all three sets, as well as .250-.135 for the match.
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire saw its longest win streak in four years come to an end.
- The Penmen lost their first set since Sept. 12 – a run of 15 straight that fell one short of the longest such stretch since 2009.
- This was the seventh time this season Bat reached double figures in kills, including the third time in the last four matches.
