Holt and Poirier Selected to NFHCA Division II Senior Game

GILBERT, Ariz. – Seniors Maddie Holt (Seabrook, N.H.) and Lindsey Poirier (South Berwick, Maine) of the Southern New Hampshire University field hockey team have been selected to the Victory Sports Tours/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II Senior Game, which will be held on November 30 at the Arthur J. Rooney Athletic Field on the campus of Duquesne University. Holt was a field player selection while Poirier was named an alternate field player.

This marks the first time in program history a Penmen field hockey student-athlete will participate in the annual event, which features the top senior players in the nation and provides them with the opportunity to represent their institution while competing against their peers. The 2018 Division II Senior Game will take place in conjunction with the NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championship as part of the NCAA Division II Fall Festival, and will coincide with the cross country, soccer and volleyball championships. A total of 38 student-athletes were selected to participate in addition to 13 alternates. Alternate choices will take the place of student-athletes who have been selected as participants but are unable to compete in the contest.

Through 11 games this season, Holt has compiled 12 points on six goals, which is good enough for second on Southern New Hampshire in both categories. In 63 career games, she has amassed 44 points on 20 goals and four assists, with seven of those goals proving to be game-winning tallies. After totaling four points as a freshman and seven as a sophomore, Holt collected 21 points as a junior on nine goals and three assists in 17 games.

Poirier has set a new career-high in points thus far in 2018, as she has one goal and three assists for five points in the Penmen midfield. Poirier has started every game for Southern New Hampshire in each of the last two seasons and has cracked the starting lineup in 57 of the 58 games in which she has appeared. During that time, Poirier has two goals and eight assists for 12 career points.

The Southern New Hampshire University field hockey team has an overall record of 6-5 and a 4-2 mark within the confines of the Northeast-10 Conference this season. The Penmen look to extend their current winning streak to three games on Saturday (October 20) when they host Bentley University on Larkin Field at 1 p.m.
