Women's Track and Field Kicks Off 2018-19 Campaign In Boston Saturday

2018-2019 SCHEDULE      2018-2019 ROSTER      2017-2018 RESULTS

The Southern New Hampshire University women's track and field program is set to open its fourth varsity season, and second full indoor track and field campaign…the Penmen registered a sixth-place finish at the 2018 Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, after they finished No. 8 at the Indoor Championships.

Senior Ashley Elder (Bristol, Conn.) and junior Alanna Murphy (Nashua, N.H.) return this season.  Each garnered NCAA Division II All-East Region recognition in 2017-18.

Elder received recognition for performances during both the indoor and outdoor seasons.  She was the top discus performer in the east region and was also chosen as an All-Region performer in the shot put.  Elder had the top discus throw in the NCAA Division II East Region with a 44.23-meter (145 feet, one inch) performance at the 2018 Penn Relays, which was good enough for No. 11 overall in the event. Elder captured five discus titles in seven meets during the outdoor season, including the 2018 Northeast-10 Conference Championship on May 5. In addition to her All-Region performance in the discus, Elder slotted in second in the shot put with a throw of 14.30 meters (46 feet, 11 inches) at the NE10 Championships. She took home the shot put crown at the New England Outdoor Championships on May 12 after a heave of 14.12 meters (46 feet, four inches), and finished either first or second in the event in six of eight outings. In total, Elder won nine individual events, finished in the top-two on 12 occasions and was top-10 in her respective events 14 times.

Elder finished the indoor season with a top-five finish in each of the seven meets in which she competed in, which included six top-two showings and five event victories.

Murphy took home All-Region accolades in the triple jump for the second consecutive season after finishing in the top-five in six of the seven meets in which she competed in. Her top performance came at Southern New Hampshire's inaugural home meet, the Penmen Relays, on April 14 when she propelled herself a distance of 11.53 meters (37 feet, 10 inches) to capture the event. In addition to her win at the Penmen Relays, Murphy also took top triple jump honors at both the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational and the George Davis Invitational, and was third at the NE10 Championships after finishing fifth at the Stonehill Skyhawk Invite.

28 athletes are on the roster to start the season, including 13 newcomers to the SNHU program.

Southern New Hampshire opens its 2018-19 schedule under the direction of Head Coach Lex Butler on Saturday when it heads to the UMass Boston Indoor Season Opener at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center.
