Junior Matt Paradis (Hooksett, N.H.) carded a 2-over 74 in Tuesday's third and final round of the Newberry College Invitational, as the Southern New Hampshire University men's golf team finished 19th in its first match of the spring at the Ocean Course in Kiawah Island, S.C.
Paradis, who opened Monday's first round with a 78 before following it up with the single best Penmen round of the tourney – a 70 – finished tied for 18th with a 6-over 222 following 54 holes.
Sophomore Garret Olivar (Manchester, N.H.) turned in his best round with an 80 that gave him a 244 for the tournament, while junior Tyler Silver (Lebanon, N.H.) also equaled a 244 with an 81 that served as his second best round of the event.
Junior Sam Riemer (Canton, Mass.) shot an 85 for a three-round total of 246, with senior Joshua LaCasse (Bow, N.H.), who did not factor in the team scoring, penciling in an 87 for a total of 265.
Notes:
- Paradis made a tournament-high 16 birdies.
- Columbus State University won the event with a 7-under 857 over the three rounds, which was eight strokes better than the runner-up University of South Carolina Aiken.
- Columbus States' Gideon Van Der Vyver was the individual medalist with a 7-under 209, besting teammate Jordan Doull by a single shot.
- The Newberry College Invitational was comprised of 96 student-athletes from 19 institutions.
