Sophomore Bas van Biezen (Sassenheim, Netherlands) picked up another singles victory, but the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision to ninth-ranked Flagler College on Thursday at the Flagler Tennis Center.
Flagler led, 2-0, when seniors Ricardo Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal) and Miguel Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal) tried to salvage a doubles win, but were edged by Alexander Chepik and Rasmus Jonsson at No. 2, 9-7.
Flagler breezed to three straight singles wins, putting the match away, before van Biezen defeated Reid Burrows, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 5 to put the Penmen on the board. Ricardo Marreiros nearly pulled out a victory at No. 2 against Chepik, but fell, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 10-2.
Notes:
-The Penmen are ranked No. 4 in the ITA Division II East Regional Rankings, while the Saints are third in the Southeast.
