Senior Zach Tanner (Woburn, Mass.) found the back of the net twice on Tuesday and was one of seven different goal scorers, as the Southern New Hampshire University men's lacrosse team picked up its second win in three outings with a 10-7 victory over Saint Michael's College at Duffy Field.
Tanner added an assist and was joined by classmate Devin Calkins (Bow, N.H.) in tallying a team-high three points. Calkins set up three Penmen goals in the triumph, while senior Khyan Gaddy (Albany, N.Y.) and junior Tom Schutz (Trumbull, Conn.) each scored twice.
Jon Lockwood led the Purple Knights' attack with a game-high five points on four goals and an assist.
Southern New Hampshire opened the game with a three-goal run and carried a 4-1 edge through the first 15 minutes of play. Schutz broke through 2:17 into the frame when he cashed in a feed from Calkins before junior Joseph Mayernik (Pearl River, N.Y.) doubled the edge with 10 minutes remaining. Schutz and Calkins connected again just past the midway point of the quarter, and after Saint Michael's put a halt to the scoring streak, Calkins found Gaddy with 3:18 to play to carry a 6-3 edge into the half.
Tanner etched his name onto the scoresheet early in the second when he set up senior Corey Cairo (Shoreham, N.Y.) just over a minute into the stanza. After back-to-back goals by Lockwood at 2:25 and 5:53, freshman Cole Jacobsen (Dartmouth, Mass.) closed out the first half scoring with his 13th of the season with 3:43 left before intermission.
After Lockwood's goal with 9:07 to go in the second quarter, the Penmen defense clamped down and held Saint Michael's scoreless for the ensuing 26:13. Southern New Hampshire did not allow a goal during the remainder of the first half, the entirety of the third quarter, as well as the first 2:06 of the fourth.
While the Penmen defense was holding the Purple Knights off the board, the SNHU attack went to work and tacked on three goals of its own. Tanner put one in the back of the cage at 6:01 of the third before Gaddy tacked on his second of the afternoon with five seconds to play. Junior Andrew Liu (Piedmont, Calif.) closed out what proved to be a four-goal run 18 seconds into the fourth quarter on his second of the year to make it 9-3.
Saint Michael's broke out of its scoring drought with a three-goal surge to trim its deficit back to three. Two goals off the stick of Lockwood in the span of 3:30 cut the Penmen lead to 9-5 with 9:24 left in regulation before Charlie Murphy tallied his lone marker of the day at 6:57.
It would be as close at the Purple Knights would come, as Cairo fed Tanner with 2:30 to go before a late Connor McGuirk tally capped off the game's scoring.
Sophomore Jacob Dionne (Windham, Maine) earned his second win of the season after stopping five of the eight shots he faced in the first half. Senior Michael Brawley (Tewksbury, Mass.) closed out the contest with eight saves in the final 30 minutes of action.

- Tanner registered at least three points for the sixth consecutive contest and the seventh time in 10 games this season. He leads the Penmen with 27 points, and has career highs in both goals (15) and assists (12).
