NORTHEAST-10 RELEASE
MANSFIELD, Mass.– Senior Tiago Fernandes (Porto, Portugal) of the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team was named the Northeast-10 Player of the Week for the period ending April 8, the league office announced Wednesday.
It is the fourth weekly honor for Fernandes, who also captured the award Sept. 26, Oct. 17 and March 27. Fernandes won both of his matches, including a No. 1 singles victory that clinched a 5-4 victory over the East Region's No. 1 team, Concordia (N.Y.) College on Saturday. The defeat was Concordia's first against a Division II East Region team since 2006 - a span of 125 matches. Fernandes took down Eymeric Chevalier, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 to give the Penmen the win, after combining with classmate Jeremy Reichentahl (Cheshire, Conn.) to give the Penmen a 2-1 leading heading into singles play with an 8-6 triumph over Michele Fenoaltea and Henry Masters at No. 3 doubles.
Fernandes and the Penmen return to action Wednesday, April 11 (3 p.m.) when they play host to Assumption College.
