Score: Southern New Hampshire University – 895 (7th/20)
Junior Matt Paradis (Hooksett, N.H.) fired a 4-under 68 Wednesday at the final round of the NCAA Atlantic/East Regional to lead the Southern New Hampshire University men's golf team up the leaderboard and to a seventh-place finish at The Resort at Glade Springs.
The Penmen did not go down without a fight, beginning the day 12 shots out of a spot in the NCAA National Championship before turning in the second best score of the round to finish just three shots away from their second trip to nationals.
Paradis' 68 matched Concordia (N.Y.) College's Minwoo Park, who captured individual medalist honors, for the lowest score of the final round. Paradis bettered his Tuesday score by nine strokes and finished in a sixth-place tie for the tournament with a 2-over 218.
Sophomore Garret Olivar (Manchester, N.H.) carded a 74 over the final 18 holes, finishing in a tie for 14th place with a 222.
Junior Sam Riemer (Canton, Mass.) matched his 74 from the middle round and totaled a 224, which was good for a 24th-place tie.
Sophomore Ryan Anderson (Beverly, Mass.) matched Olivar and Riemer with the third 74 for the Penmen to pencil in his best score of the tournament. Anderson wound up with a 232.
Fellow sophomore Jacob Rosen (Johnston, R.I.) did not factor into the scoring with an 81 and tabulated a 246.
Notes:
- Roberts Wesleyan College won the tournament with an 889, which was one shot better than Franklin Pierce University. The University of Charleston was the third team to qualify for the NCAA National Championship with an 892.
- Park ended up with a 9-under 207 for the tournament and defeated Wilmington (Del.) University's Ryan Rucinski by six shots.
- The NCAA Atlantic/East Regional was comprised of 20 institutions and 108 student-athletes.
