Senior Alex Satrustegui (Pamplona, Spain) broke a scoreless tie in the 66th minute and added another goal less than five minutes later to lead the Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer team to a 3-1 victory against previously-unbeaten Le Moyne College on Saturday at Ted Grant Field.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Satrustegui's goals were his nation-leading 11th and 12th of the season. He has now scored in all six matches this season.
- Graduate student João Brum (Ribeira Grande, Portugal) also scored for the Penmen and added an assist.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Following 65 minutes of deadlocked soccer, Satrustegui put the Penmen on the board when he collected a pass from sophomore Tom Marriott (Nottingham, England) on the right side of the box and sent a low shot inside the far post.
- Satrustegui made it 2-0 early in the 70th minute, as Brum delivered a thru-ball that Satrustegui drove into the top right corner of the net.
- Le Moyne made it on to the board midway through the 76th minute on a free kick from the left side of the pitch.
- Brum sealed it with 2:34 remaining when sophomore Kiko Hernandez (Madrid, Spain) set up a breakaway that he finished into the right side of the net.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Senior goalkeeper Daniel Milton (Ajax, Ontario) made two saves, while Le Moyne goalkeeper Josh Mahr stopped three shots.
- Southern New Hampshire doubled up the hosts in shots, 12-6, including 8-3 in the second half.
- The Penmen also owned a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks, including 5-0 in the opening stanza.
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire, which is receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Division II Poll, is unbeaten through its first six games for the fifth straight season.
- SNHU improves to 6-2-3 over its last 11 against Le Moyne, which ended the Penmen season a year ago on PKs in the NE10 quarterfinals. The last Dolphins win in the series came Oct. 1, 2016 in a 1-0 home victory.
- Marriott has registered at least one point in five of the six matches he has played in this season and leads the NE10 in assists.
- Satrustegui has now scored in 19 of the 23 matches he has played in with the Penmen, who are 17-2 when he finds the back of the net.
- With 12 goals for 24 points through just six games, Satrustegui is more than 70 percent of the way to his goal (15) and point (34) totals from 17 matches a year ago.
- Southern New Hampshire improves to 87-11-9 (.855) over its last 107 matches dating back to the beginning of the 2013 National Championship season.
