Records: SNHU 7-3, Wayne State 11-2, Fairmont State 3-5

Game 1:  Wayne State 4, SNHU 3 (8 innings):
Trailing 2-0, SNHU scored once in the bottom of the 6th as freshman Chloe Griffin (Scarborough, Maine) doubled down the left-field line.  Sophomore Shay Sauvageau (Griswold, Conn.) followed with a solid single, scoring Griffin.  With two outs, junior Jordan Wade (East Taunton, Mass.) hit an 0-1 pitch over the left-field fence giving SNHU a 3-2 lead.

Junior Gabriella Vachon (Newton, Mass.) come on to pitch in the top of the 7th.  The first batter for WSU, senior Hannah McClounie hit the third pitch over the left-field fence to tie the game at 3-3. Two of the next four batters reached but a strikeout ended the 7th.  SNHU went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the seventh.

In the top of the 8th, the tie-break runner advanced to 3rd on a passed ball, but the next two batters grounded out to Vachon before Rainey Psenicka singled down the right-field line.

In the bottom of the 8th, Vachon was placed on second, and on an 0-1 pitch Tyrrell bunted past the pitcher for a single, and Vachon was thrown out at the plate (4-2), then Tyrrell was thrown out going to second for a double play.  Griffin singled up the middle, but Sauvageau lined out to end the game.

Junior Maddy Barone (Halifax, Mass.) allowed ten hits and two earned runs.  Vachon allowed 4 hits with one strikeout and 2 runs (1 earned).  Megan Guitar pitched all 8 innings for WSU allowing three earned runs on five hits with seven strikeouts to one walk.

Game 2:  SNHU 4 Fairmont State 3:
The Penmen had to rally again, but this time earned the win against the Fighting Falcons.  Fairmont took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, when they came up with five hits (two doubles and three singles), knocking SNHU starter Chloe Griffin out of her first start of the season.

The Penmen tied the game in the top of the sixth inning.  Shay Sauvageau walked and was bunted to second by senior Erin Garczynski (Norwood, Mass.).  Jordan Wade followed with a single and freshman Emily Carbonneau (Lowell, Mass.) reached on an error to load the bases.  Junior Logan Filo-Loos (Dudley, Mass.) was hit-by-pitch, sophomore Emily Critch (Halifax, Mass.) reached on an error, and a sacrifice fly by Vachon tied the game.

SNHU won the game in its final at-bat, putting together a two-out single by Garczynski and a run-scoring double by Wade to move in front 4-3.

Vachon (1-1), who earned the win, pitched two perfect innings in relief.

Notes:
- Southern New Hampshire stands at 2-2 on the Florida trip.  Three of the four games have come against opponents ranked in the top-25.
- Wade was the top performer on Sunday, going a combined 4-for-7 with a homer, double, and three RBI.
- This was the first meeting between SNHU and Fairmont State.  

What's Next:
Southern New Hampshire will play two more games on Monday.  They will play Caldwell University at 4:00 p.m. and then will meet fellow Northeast-10 member Lemoyne College at 6:15 p.m.  
The first scheduled home game for the Penmen will be Sunday, March 24, with a doubleheader against Queens College.
