Pair Of Wins Pushes #13 Softball To 35-9

Game One: #13 Southern New Hampshire 4, Stonehill 1
Game Two: #13 Southern New Hampshire 8, Saint Michael's 3
Records: SNHU 35-9 (19-4 NE10, 13-4 NE10 Northeast), Stonehill 14-21 (10-13 NE10, 8-9 NE10 Northeast), Saint Michael's 3-28 (2-18 NE10, 2-14 NE10 Northeast)

Top Performers:
- Freshman Emily Carbonneau (Lowell, Mass.) hit her NE10-leading tenth homer leading off the fourth inning of the Saint Michael's game to put the Penmen up 2-0.
- Senior Erin Garczynski (Norwood, Mass.) had the homer for SNHU.  She went 4-for-6 on the day with a pair of hits in each game, driving in four runs. 
- Junior Maddy Barone (Halifax, Mass.) broke a 1-1 tie with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning of the first game - then finished in the circle for her first save of the season.  Barone was the winning pitcher in the Saint Michael's game.
- Sophomore Olivia Strasser (Rutland, Mass.) allowed just an unearned in the Stonehill win, tossing the first six innings.  She improved to 14-1.
- Junior Erin Tyrrell (Milford, N.H.) had four hits on the day, including her fourth triple of the season.

GAME ONE: SNHU 4 Stonehill 1
- The Penmen opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning as Tyrrell led off with a triple- and Garczynski plated her with an infield single. 
- Stonehill took advantage of an SNHU miscue in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game.  Sophie Perez beat out an infield single, advanced to second on a groundout, then scored on a single by Caroline Casey which got away in the outfield.
- In the last of the sixth inning, Garczynski and Carbonneau singled.  After sophomore Jackie Gavin (Laconia, N.H.) reached on a fielders choice, Barone broke the tie with a single.
- A single by junior Logan Filo-Loos (Dudley, Mass.) loaded the bases, and singles by Tyrrell and sophomore Emily Critch (Halifax, Mass.) brought home runs for a 4-1 lead.                            
- Strasser went the first six innings, allowing six hits and one unearned run.  She walked two and struck out four.  Barone earned her first save of the season, and second of her career, finishing up in the circle.

GAME TWO:  SNHU 8 Saint Michael's 3
- Saint Michael's played as the home team since the game was moved to SNHU.
- The Penmen took a 1-0 lead in the third on a single by Tyrrell, a sacrifice by Critch and a fielders choice play in which sophomore Shay Sauvageau (Griswold, Conn.) reached.  Garczynski lifted a sacrifice fly to put SNHU in front.
- Carbonneau homered leading off the top of the fourth for a 2-0 lead.
- After the Purple Knights cut the lead to 2-1 on an RBI single by Courtney Norton in the fourth, SNHU responded with three more runs.
- Garczynski, junior Jordan Wade (East Taunton, Mass.) and Carbonneau put together three hits for a run. 
- Gavin was asked to lay down a squeeze bunt, which scored Wade.  The catcher then threw to second to try to nail an advancing Gavin, but threw into centerfield allowing both Carbonneau and Gavin to score.
- SNHU opened an 8-1 lead in the sixth inning.  A single by Sauvageau was followed by a two-run homer by Garczynski.
- Emily Lanci took Strasser deep in the top of the seventh inning for Saint Michael's, a two-run shot, to give the Purple Knights the game's final two runs.
- Barone earned the win with five strong innings in the nightcap to improve to 17-4. 

Notes:
- There are four games remaining in the regular season.  The Penmen trail Saint Anselm by two games in the NE10 Northeast Division.  The Hawks swept a doubleheader from Assumption on Monday.
- With four hits, Garczynski raised her season average to .417, tops in the NE10.

What's Next:
- The Penmen will return to action Tuesday, April 23 at the SNHU Softball Field against Saint Anselm College at 4 p.m.
