Top Performers:
- Junior Maddy Barone (Halifax, Mass.) and sophomore Olivia Strasser (Rutland, Mass.) each threw complete games on Saturday. Strasser notched a shutout in the second game, her fourth of the season. Barone struck out 10 in the opener, giving her 109 in 110 innings pitched this season.
- SNHU hit three homers on the day - senior Erin Garczynski (Norwood, Mass.) homered in the first game. Freshman Chloe Griffin (Salem, N.H.) and freshman Emily Carbonneau (Lowell, Mass.) went deep in the second game.
Game One:Â Â SNHU 3-1
- Pace scored its only run of the day in the top of the second inning. Annie Carberry (2-for-3) singled, moved up on a sacrifice, took third on a groundout, and scored on a single to center by Jillian Garner.
- The Penmen finally hit the board with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning on a solo blast by Garczynski, her fourth of the season.
- SNHU plated two more in the last of the sixth inning. Carbonneau reached on a hit-by-pitch and freshman Jenna McDonough (Abington, Mass.) was called on to run for her. Barone reached on a bunt single and sophomore Shay Sauvageau (Griswold, Conn.) sacrificed the runners up. Junior Gabriella Vachon (Newton, Mass.) then laced a two-run double to center.
Game Two:Â SNHU 4-0
- Sophomore Olivia Strasser (Rutland, Mass.) improved to 8-1 with a complete-game shutout. She allowed only three singles, striking out five.
- The teams were scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning. Sophomore Emily Critch (Halifax, Mass.) singled, and moved to second on a bunt by Garczynski. After junior Jordan Wade (East Taunton, Mass.) walked, Carbonneau reached on an error. A sacrifice fly by sophomore Jackie Gavin (Laconia, N.H.) put the Penmen in front 1-0.
- In the bottom of the fifth inning, junior Erin Tyrrell (Milford, N.H) walked and Griffin homered. Â
- Carbonneau hit a long drive to centerfield in the bottom of the sixth inning for her sixth home run of 2019.
Notes:
- During the current 17-game win streak, the Penmen have recorded nine shutouts, and outscored the opponent 86-9.Â
- Barone has 13 consecutive winning decisions since dropping the season opener to Slippery Rock in Myrtle Beach on February 15.
What's Next:
- The Penmen will host Adelphia University in a home doubleheader on Sunday (12/2 p.m.), bringing to an end a seven-game homestand.Â
