Senior Irem Bat (Istanbul, Turkey) posted 22 kills and 17 digs, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's volleyball team began its Florida trip with a pair of losses Friday to Grand Valley State University and host Nova Southeastern University at Rick Case Arena. The Penmen suffered a heartbreaker against GVSU, 22-25, 22-25, 25-20, 28-26, 15-11, in the opener, before falling to NSU, 25-27, 25-17, 25-19, 25-15.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• The Penmen held a slight .154-.150 hitting edge on Grand Valley in the fourth set, but the Lakers outhit SNHU, .203-.151, overall.
• SNHU outhit Nova Southeastern, .357-.214 in the opening set, while the Sharks returned the favor in each of the three stanzas the rest of the way, as well as .273-.137, overall.

NOTES

• Southern New Hampshire, by winning the first two sets against Grand Valley State, extended its streak to eight consecutive sets to begin the season.
