Men's Lacrosse Stumbles in Season Opener at Georgian Court

Junior Stephen Dubois (Goffstown, N.H.) scored four times and senior Neal Murray (Marblehead, Mass.) stopped 10 shots, but a five-goal third quarter propelled Georgian Court University past Southern New Hampshire University, 10-7, in men's lacrosse action on Saturday.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS

  • In addition to the four goals, Dubois raked in a team-high six ground balls.
  • Freshman Tim Krutz (Cheshire, Conn.) handed out three assists in his first career game.
  • Austin Geissel turned aside 16 shots in goal for the Lions.

KEY MOMENTS

  • Dubois and junior Cole Jacobsen (Dartmouth, Mass.) each scored twice in the opening half to stake the Penmen to a 4-3 lead at the intermission.
  • Georgian Court responded with back-to-back goals to open the third quarter to take its first lead of the game before sophomore Chris Valentine (Derry, N.H.) and Dubois answered with two straight strikes to regain a one-goal advantage for Southern New Hampshire.
  • The Lions closed out the third with three consecutive goals in the final 7:46 to grab a lead it would never relinquish.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Jacobsen tallied a pair of goals while Valentine had a goal and an assist.
  • Sophomores Tristan Pietz (Dudley, Mass.) and Pat Quinn (Billerica, Mass.) each collected an assist.
  • The Penmen outshot Georgian Court, 49-35, over the duration of the contest. SNHU put 26 of its attempts on frame compared to 20 by the hosts.
  • The Lions went 12-for-20 at the faceoff X and won the ground ball battle, 45-30.
  • The Penmen were whistled for five minutes worth of penalties on six infractions while Georgian Court was tagged for eight-and-a-half minutes for eight misdeeds.

NOTES

  • Jacobsen extended his personal point streak to 11 games, which dates back April 28, 2018.
  • Dubois tied his career high with four goals, which was set on February 23, 2018 against Molloy College. He now has three hat tricks over the past two seasons.

  • The Penmen continue the nonconference portion of their schedule on Saturday (Feb. 29) when they make the trek to Molloy for a noon faceoff.
