Penmen Softball traveled across the Sunshine State Wednesday and dropped a pair of games to Florida Tech, 3-1 and 9-1. SNHU is 5-5 to start the season with four games remaining on the trip.
KEY MOMENTS - GAME 1
- Senior Maddy Barone (Halifax, Mass.) went the distance in this one, allowing three runs on seven hits. She falls to 4-2 on the season. Â
- Senior Erin Tyrrell (Milford, N.H.), the designated player, drove in the only run for the Penmen with a sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth inning.
- Freshman Abi Gray (Litchfield, N.H.) reached on a two-base error and sophomore Emily Carbonneau (Lowell, Mass.) bunted her to third ahead of the RBI.
- Barone held the Panthers in check until the host squad came up with a pair of doubles and a single, scoring three times to win the contest.
- Jaden Kline's single drove in two runs and proved to be the game-winner.
- Jordan Lawlis (6-3) allowed only the unearned run in a complete game victory for Florida Tech.
KEY MOMENTS - GAME 2
- The Penmen turned to freshman Alexcea Glynos (Danver, Mass.) in the circle for the second game, her first career appearance.
- Florida Tech scored three times in the bottom of the first inning, taking advantage of walks and wild pitches to open an early lead.
- SNHU cut the lead to 3-1 in the third. Junior Jackie Gavin (East Bridgewater, Mass.) walked and senior Gabriella Vachon (Newton, Mass.) followed with a fielders choice.
- A pair of wild pitches allowed Vachon to score.
- The Panthers tacked on three runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings to end the contest at 9-1.
- Tina Velazquez held the Penmen hitless, allowing one run, with two walks and three strikeouts to pick up the win. She improved to 10-4 on the season.
NOTES
- SNHU is now 5-5 on the Florida trip. Â
- The Penmen are 1-6 all-time against the Panthers.  The most recent meeting had come in 2016.
UP NEXT
- The Penmen will play two games on Friday in Winter Haven, Fla. They are scheduled to meet Kutztown University at 10:00 a.m. and Northwood University (Mich.) at 12:15 p.m.
- SNHU is scheduled to open the home portion of the schedule with an NE10 doubleheader on Saturday, March 21, against Pace University at 12:00 p.m.
