Senior Bas van Biezen (Sassenheim, Netherlands), sophomore Fernando Torres (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) and freshman Guido Janssen (Zeewolde, Netherlands) each won both of their matches Friday, as the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team kicked off spring with a 4-3 victory against the University of Findlay at the Lake Canoe Tennis Center in Orlando, Fla.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- van Biezen took care of Andrew Codita at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-1, and also teamed with brother and classmate Willem van Biezen (Sassenheim, Netherlands) to edge Jorge Barnuevo and Alfredo Berlanga, 7-5, at No. 1 and make it a clean sweep of doubles.
- Torres was a 6-0, 6-4 winner at No. 5 singles against Ivaylo Slavov, while Jannsen defeated Mark Ivanov, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 6 singles. The pair also secured the doubles point with a 6-4 No. 2 win against Soh Kuyama and Slavov.
- Sophomore Emmanuel Vacalares (Cagayan de Oro, Philippines) and freshman Oscar Hawken (Oslo, Norway) started off doubles play with a 6-2 triumph against Ethan Shoesmith and Mark Ivanov at No. 3.
NOTES
- SNHU is 5-0 for the first time since the 2016-17 season.
- The Penmen are the No. 2-ranked team in the ITA East Region Rankings.
- Willem van Biezen is No. 14 in the nation in singles, as well as the top-ranked player in the East Region, but dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision to Barnuevo at No. 1. Bas van Biezen is 49th in the country and No. 2 in the region. As a doubles tandem, the duo is sixth, regionally.
- Vacalares is No. 19 in singles in the region. He was outlasted by Kuyama at No. 2, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).

- Southern New Hampshire continues its trip through the Sunshine State on Saturday (March 7) at noon when it takes on Palm Beach Atlantic University at the USTA National Campus.
