Sophomore Chris Valentine (Derry, N.H.) scored six goals and added two assists, leading SNHU to its first win of the season, 14-7 over Dominican College on Saturday at Penmen Stadium.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Valentine, who had scored three times in the first two contests, exploded for six goals to give him a team-leading nine on the season.
- Junior Cole Jacobsen (Dartmouth, Mass.) added four goals and three assists.
- Sophomore Tristan Pietz (Dudley, Mass.) had a goal and two assists for three points.
- Senior Neal Murray (Marblehead, Mass.) earned the win, making eight saves for Southern New Hampshire.
KEY MOMENTS
- After Dominican scored the game's first goal, SNHU ran off five consecutive goals, including three within 18 seconds to take a lead of 5-1 after the first quarter.
- SNHU added five more goals in the second quarter to lead 10-5 at the half.
- The Chargers were able to trim the lead to 11-7 heading to the fourth quarter when Luke Martini scored his third of the game as time was running out in the third.
- SNHU scored the game's final three goals in the fourth quarter. Valentine scored twice and junior Josh Farmer (Penacook, N.H.) tallied his first career goal with 11 seconds to play.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Two other Penmen scored in the game. Sophomore Jeremy Handman (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) notched his first of the season in the first quarter.
- An unassisted goal by freshman Gennaro Marra (Hampstead, N.H.) was the first goal of his career.
- SNHU won 16 of the 24 faceoffs, and won the ground ball battle, 37-22.
- The Chargers converted 3-of-6 man-up opportunities, while the Penmen were 1-for-3.
- In addition to Martini, Dominican's Marcos Pierce had a hat trick.
