SNHU had a successful Saturday in Florida with a pair of wins. The Penmen won 5-1 over Wayne State (Mich.) in the morning, and then defeated the University of Bridgeport 4-2 in the afternoon.

KEY MOMENTS - GAME 1
  • Senior Maddy Barone (Halifax, Mass.) went the distance in this one, allowing only one run on seven hits.  She walked one and struck out four Wayne State batters.
  • Junior Shay Sauvageau (Griswold, Conn.) drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly, and added a two-run homer in the fifth inning.
  • Sophomore Emily Carbonneau (Lowell, Mass.) also knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly in the first as the Penmen built a 3-0 lead over the Warriors.
KEY MOMENTS - GAME 2
  • Carbonneau knocked in three of the four runs for the Penmen in the win over Bridgeport.
  • Carbonneau had an RBI single in the first inning to score Sauvageau, who had singled and advanced on a fielders choice.
  • Barone added a sacrifice fly in the third inning for a 2-0 lead.
  • The Purple Knights would come back to tie the game in the top of the fifth inning, with Barone relieving starting pitcher, junior Olivia Strasser (Rutland, Mass.).
  • Strasser worked 4.1 innings, allowing four hits and two runs.  Only one of the runs was earned.  She walked two and struck out five.
  • Barone (3-0) would finish the game on the mound, earning the win when Carbonneau doubled home two runs in the bottom of the fifth.
NOTES
  • SNHU is now 3-1 on the Florida trip.   They will play doubleheaders six of the next eight days through next Sunday, March 15.
  • Sauvageau's home run was the first by the Penmen this season.  She finished Saturday 4-for-7 with the home run and two doubles, driving in three runs.
  • Carbonneau drove in four runs on Saturday.  
UP NEXT
  • The Penmen are back in action Sunday, March 8.  SNHU will take on Minnesota-Duluth at 10:00 a.m. and follow that with contest against Ashland (Ohio) in Winter Haven, Fla.
